USU Extension and DNR Publish Conservation Guide for Landowners
A publication 18 months in the works is now available to landowners to help them achieve their conservation and economic goals. "Conservation Programs for Private Lands: Programs and Resources Available in Utah for Implementation of Utah's Wildlife Action Plan" is now available online and in hard copy.
Because privately owned lands provide crucial habitat for hundreds of wildlife species, the publication is intended to be a landowner's one-stop shopping guide. In the United States, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports that more than 70 percent of the wildlife species listed as threatened or endangered inhabit privately owned lands. Although Utah is considered to be a public-land state, the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources estimates that as much as 50 percent of the remaining sage-grouse habitat in the state is privately owned.
