Pest Control

Good pest control is vital in maintaining healthy plants in a garden.  Pest management can be one of the greatest challenges to the home gardener.  Weevils cause a lot of damage to the surface of leaves. White flies tend to attack the major part of root and shoot systems. Leafhoppers cause damage to leaves with their saliva and the viruses they carry.  These common pests and a variety of diseases frequently plague plants; an essential step in solving these problems begins with correctly identifying them.  To learn more about pest identification, click here.

Tree Walk

Trees are an important addition to a landscape and can provide fruit, a landscape focal point or energy savings by shading your house.  Join us on our June 18 Tree Walk, at the Utah Botanical Center.  Learn from horticulturist JayDee Gunnell of the unique characteristics of over 150 different species of trees and shrubs that perform great in the intermountain area, and which ones might fit best in your own landscape.  The Extension Tree Browser, an online resource that can be found at Treebrowser.org, provides additional information on a variety of trees.

Art in the Gardens Gala

Join us at the Ogden Botanical Gardens to commemorate 17 wonderful years as a treasured spot in Ogden on June 23, 3 - 8 p.m. Admire art created by local artists, listen to live music, watch culinary demonstrations in the beauty of the Gardens, or enjoy a tour conducted by a Master Gardener. There will also be an open house to showcase our diagnostic clinic where we will diagnose plant problems, identify plant pests, and answer other horticulture questions.
