It's going to be a spooky weekend here at Tewksbury Fine Wines!
We've got some SCARY good wines for you to try!
We will begin the tasting with the 2009 Roero Arneis Vigne Sparse. Giovanni Almondo produces a fresh, lively Arneis called Vigne Sparse. It is assembled from grapes that hail from several vineyards and is fermented exclusively in stainless steel. It reflects the essence and unadorned beauty of the Arneis variety. Almondo ferments at least a third of the vineyard's grapes in barrels to increase structure and complexity. The result is that Giovanni Almondo's special Roero Arneis wine is a palate pleaser and at the same time wholly unique. Bottle-$19.99, Case-$203.90, discounted bottle price-$16.96.
Next, we will go to the Willamette Valley in Oregon for the 2009 Siduri Pinot Noir. The wine shows red cherry and clove flavors, with a smooth, velvet-like texture. On the mid-palate the wine closes down slightly, due undoubtedly to its youth, but the finish opens up again and is lingering, long, and fine-grained with lively acidity carrying the fruit flavors on and on. This wine certainly drinks well now, especially with food, but will be even better with 6 months in the cellar.
Bottle-$22.99, Case-$234.50, discounted bottle price-$19.54
For the finale, we will be heading to Italy for the 2006 Produttori Nebbiolo di Carema; a wine that is valued for its perfume and elegance but has the structure and acidity to age for decades. Compared to its brethren further south and east in Barolo, this wine does not have the same power and density, but more than makes up for it with its aromatic fireworks that only Nebbiolo grown in this unique terroir can show (tar, leather, damp leaves, roses).
Bottle-$24.99, Case-$254.90
For Saturday, we are continuing our "pick a bottle to taste." We are calling it -"It's your choice." The customer gets to decide which bottle to taste. Please, take us up on this one!
