Hi,
This week we will begin our tasting with the 2009 Evening Land Pouilly Fuisse. With a touch of vanilla and spice as well as a rich, vibrant and lingering palate, the 2009 is an excellent value at $32.99. Evening Land Vineyards has a great team behind the scenes, which includes wine super-stars Dominique Lafon and Master Sommelier Larry Stone.
The 2007 Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico from the high altitude vineyards around Gaiole is the best expression of 'Galestro' type soil in the Chianti. This wine is light in color, medium to full bodied, but of extraordinary elegance, no kidding! Wine Advocate raves - "90 Points - Italy's Finest Value - The 2007 Chianti Classico is an impeccable, elegant wine graced with fine, silky tannins that frame floral red berry, spices and licorice. This soft, inviting Chianti Classico impresses for its superb balance and class. Anticipated maturity: 2010- 2015." Deliciously priced at only $16.99! I brought in ten cases.
To finish the tasting, we will be pouring the 2008 Lioco Indica. The blend is a combo of old-vine Carignan (66%), Mourvedre (25%), and Petite Syrah (9%). This unique wine is intended to resemble the Rhone wines of southern France. The fruit was hand harvested, sorted and then fermented in stainless steel tanks using a wild yeast. This makes it great! Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally and finished completely. Cassis graphite and kalamata olive aromas dominate the nose, while plum, baking spice, and violet flavors are found in the mouth. Full-bodied and robust, this wine pairs well with hearty dishes or grilled meats. For all of you who love the Rhone, wait till' you taste this one from California, you will be stunned!
For Saturday, we are continuing our continuing our "pick a bottle to taste" . We are calling it -"It's your choice". The customer gets to decide which bottle to taste. Please, take us up on this one!
