This is my favorite season right now. Fall is in the air. The kids are back in their routine and the sky is the beautiful blue it's supposed to be. The crispness feels great. Red wine and apple season is knocking on our door. We are switching our palate over to reds, slowly but surely.
We will be featuring one red and one white wine this evening. They are both really delicious and you are going to want to try these beauties!
Please note, due to the Jewish holidays, we will be a bit short staffed this evening. Please accept my apologies, and thank you for your patience and understanding. I appreciate it very much!
Drum-roll please...
2009 Gimenez Riili, Las Rioja, Argentina. Torrontes $22.99 a bottle, $234.50 a case, or $19.54 as part of a mixed case.
Crystal clear yellow color, the nose presents delicate yet intense aromas of grapefruit, green apple, melon and roses. The finish is harmonious, expressive, elegant and precisely acidic. I really like this wine. I find it unusual and very tasty.
2007 Three Rocks, Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon $19.99 a bottle, $203.90 a case or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case.
This wine is a select blend of wines grown in a
handful of Napa Valley vineyards, including our estate vineyards in the
northeast corner of Napa Valley. Each lot in the blend was carefully aged
in French oak barrels before the final cuvee was assembled. The Merlot
and Cabernet Franc in the blend add complexity to the aroma and flavor while
softening the muscular tannins of the Cabernet Sauvignon. True to the
outstanding, ripe 2007 vintage, the wine shows the berry, dark cherry fruit
notes of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a touch of earthy, leafy notes from
the Cabernet Franc. Just before bottling the wine was very lightly fined
with egg whites to carefully moderate the wine's astringency while leaving untouched
the ripe, fleshy structure that contributes to the long, complex finish. Great cab for twenty bucks, how can you go wrong!
