FRIDAY'S TASTING:
Zeni Ramato Pinot Grigio 2008 $24.99 a bottle, $254.90 a case, or $21.24 a bottle as part of a mixed case.
This wine, with a slight pink hue has lovely aromas on the nose with fresh white flowers, Asian pear and light strawberry fruit. Excellent concentration with real depth of flavor. The finish is clean and refreshing. Zeni is grown and produced in the Dolomite region of Italy, this is real mountain fruit!! This is the real deal!
Finca Os Cobatos 2008 $13.99 a bottle, $142.70 a case, or $11.89 a
bottle as part of a mixed case.
This small vineyard of approximately ten acres is located in the village of
As
Tapias and planted with the native Godello grape. Usually, in the first week
of
September, they harvest the grapes by hand. After fermentation, the wine remains
more
than four months in contact with the yeast cells. This brightens the wine and the result is a delicious
fruity Godello, full of flavor. The color is a bright
straw
yellow, and the nose has fresh ripe fruits of citrus and lychee. The
palate
is not quite full bodied, but not light either. It is an interesting wine with a light acidity and a fresh
finish.
2007 Jean Michael Gonnet La Font Du Vent Les Promesses Cote Du Rhone Grenache Blend $19.99 a bottle, $203.90 a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case.
This estate is owned and run by brothers Michel and Jean Gonnet of Domaine Font de Michelle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The Gonnet's own 75 acres of vineyards comprised of almost 170 small plots in and around the appellation. The Font du Vent property is located on the western side of the Rhône, across the river from Châteauneuf, in the village of Domazan. Though appellation Côte du Rhône, they maintain these vines with the same meticulous care afforded to those in their Châteauneuf parcels. Leaf-pulling and crop-thinning keeps yields low and hand-harvesting all the fruit ensures only the best bunches are vinified in the gravity fed winery. This elegant bottling of Côtes du Rhône is a blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Mourvèdre. All of the fruit is de-stemmed, and then vinified in tank. The wine is bottled unfiltered. The Font du Vent Les Promesses displays lovely red fruits with notes of crushed black pepper. As all of you know, I love Rhone wines. This has to be my favorite. I am not kidding. $20 bucks, 2007, what a steal!! What a wine!
