It seems like everyone is on vacation this week.

If you happen to be around this weekend and not on vacay, we have several  nice summer wines that we will be featuring.  Since the sun will still be around, we will be showing a Rosé from Tavel that is hard to beat. In addition, we will be tasting  an  amazing Arneis from Italy (white),  and a juicy red field blend from Raymond Vineyards.
Come on by and support your local wine merchant!

FRIDAY'S TASTING:
2009 Domaine Moulin La Viguerie Les Falaises De Braise Tavel Rosé, Grenache Blend
$19.99 a bottle, $203.90 a case or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case.

The Moulin la Viguerie, Tavel 2009 is: 50% Grenache Noir, 30% Cinsault, 10% Syrah, 10% of Mourvedre, Bourboulenc, and Clairette. The Petit-Roudil family have been producing Tavel and Cotes du Rhone wines since the 16th Century when the monks were making the local wines. Today Gael Petit and his wife Mireille Roudil continue to make great Tavel at Moulin la Viguerie. Their vines grow in four different soil types depending on the varietal: chalky-clay, sandy-loam, sandy, and limestone. Gael has to work extremely hard to keep up with the varying care each soil type requires. All work, including the harvest, is done by hand. Drink this gorgeous wine on its own or with appetizers, cold meats, roast turkey, and grilled salmon. It's really beautiful.

2009 Almondo Roero Arneis Vigna Sparse Monta
$19.99 a bottle, $203.90 a case or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case.

This well-tended estate produces a first rate Barbera d'Alba and two different styles of excellent Arneis, for which Giovanni Almondo and his meticulously run property have become justly famous. Almondo produces a fresh, lively Arneis called Vigne Sparse. It is assembled from grapes that hail from several vineyards and is fermented exclusively in stainless steel. It reflects the essence and unadorned beauty of the Arneis variety. Almondo ferments at least a third of the vineyard's grapes in barrels to increase structure and complexity. The result is that Giovanni Almondo's special Roero Arneis wine is a palate pleaser and at the same time wholly unique. It is truly gorgeous and is a repeat in our shoppe.

2008 Raymond R Collection Lot NO 7 Field Blend
$17.99 a bottle, $183.50 a case or $15.29 as part of a mixed case.

Our 2008 R Collection Field Blend is a balanced, structured, medium-to-full bodied wine with firm, juicy tannins and bright acidity. The nose exudes seductive red fruit aromas of ripe raspberries, cherries, boysenberries, and cooked plums. The palate reveals flavors of red currant and blackberry jam with earthy hints of tobacco leaves. The finish is surprisingly lengthy with a lovely texture and exceptional balance.
For Saturday come out and try:

Finca Os Cobatos 2008
$13.99 a bottle, $142.70 a case or $11.89 a bottle as part of a mixed case.

The Mendez family owns Finca Os Cobatos. Their small vineyard of approximately ten acres is located in the village of As Tapias and planted with native Godello grape. Usually in the first week of September, they harvest by hand. After fermentation the wine remains more than four months in contact with the yeast cells. This gives it a delicious fruity Godello full flavor. The color of this wine should be a bright straw yellow with the nose having fresh ripe fruits of citrus and lychee. The palate is fairly full bodied, very fresh with a light acidity and a fresh finish.

Pierre Usseglio, Panorama 2007
$15.99 a bottle, $163.10 a case or $13.59 a bottle as part of a mixed case.

80% Merlot, 10% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Not your typical Rhone wine blend from a famous Chateauneuf-du-Pape maker. Francis Usseglio left Italy in 1931 to work in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. His son Pierre established his own winery in 1966. Since 1999 two grandsons have been in charge. Today they produce some of the most profound wines in France. This is their everyday "house wine" and should be yours too! It is a stunning success with sweet aromas of blue and black fruits and beautifully pure flavors. Perfect with pasta, grilled meats, and cheese.
