FRIDAY'S TASTING:
2009 Tour du Bon, Bandol, Rose, Grenache blend. $27.99 a bottle, $285.50 a case or $23.80 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Tour du Bon is a traditional estate based in one of
Provence's
most prestigious appellations, Bandol. The area is renowned for the
quality of
its pale, intensely flavored rose wines. Tour du Bon's soft,
ochre-tinged
robe rose is y home!highly evocative of the reassuring heat of the Provençal
countryside. The wine is very subtle and exudes perfumes that are at
once
invigorating and sweet. Soft and spicy on the palate, this rose is a
good match
for a wide range of foods, from seafood to North African-style dishes,
the more
exotic the better. (35% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 30% Cinsault, 10%
Clairette). We have five cases to our allotment, and that is it! This is the Rose´ I am drinking and entertaining with.
2009 Huia, Marlborough, Sauvignon Blanc $22.99 a bottle, $234.50 a case or $19.54 as part of a mixed case.
The
Huia Sauvignon Blanc 2009 was harvested from two Estate vineyards in
certification to Bio Grow Organics and Bio Dynamics. The Home vineyard
on the Wairau plain is river-run made up of sandy silts and stones which
retain heat overnight. The grapes from this vineyard carry ripe
tropical flavours. The Winsome Vineyard in the Southern Valleys is clay
based mixed with black sand. The nights are colder but the days are
hotter giving more herbaceous, red bell pepper and mineral flavours to
the grapes. The different vineyards and rootstocks were pressed
separately. A 15% portion went through a natural yeast ferment in mainly
neutral French oak to add further richness and complexity to the blend.
Wine yeasts were used on the other portion to retain fruit intensity
and freshness. This wine shows good aromatic intensity with bright
herbaceous notes, gooseberry and lime zest. This uplifting Sauvignon
shows an excellent length and depth on the palate.
This is an original Tewksbury Fine Wine Sauvignon Blanc. We bring it back year after year after year!
2007 Sottimano, Pairolero, Alba, Barbera D' Alba $29.99 a bottle, $305.88 a case or $25.49 as part of a mixed case.
The 2007 Barbera de Alba
Pairolero is sumptuous and rich in its massive dark fruit, flowers,
minerals and spices. This is one of the more intense, full-bodied
Barberas readers will come across in 2007, and it is utterly delicious.
It will prove to be even better in another year or so when all of the elements blend together. The 2007 Pairolero is an inspired effort!
Anticipated maturity: 2010-2017.

JUNE WINES OF THE MONTH
2009 Tour du Bon, Bandol,
Rose´, Provence France* $27.99
a bottle, $254.90 a case, or $21.24 a bottle as part of a mixed case. *Please see above for description.
2008 Jean Manciat, Charnay-les-Macon, Burgundy, France,
Chardonnay $21.99 a bottle, $224.30 a case, or $18.70 a bottle
as part of a mixed case. Jean
Manciat was one of the very first wines in Joe
Dressner
and Denyse Louis' portfolio and this excellent producer stands head and
shoulders above the ocean of co-op wines in the Macon area. Manciat has
only
5.5 hectares largely planted to old vines (50+ years) and the vines are
hand
harvested. The yields are very low for the appellation, less than
50hl/ha a
fraction on average. Grass is planted in between the rows of vines in
order to
maintain a healthy micro-climate in his vineyards. The Macon-Charnay is
produced in stainless steel vats, to express the fruity, floral aromas
and
flinty minerality that characterize the best Chardonnay in the
region. The
wine's rich in texture is balanced by a nice core of acidity, and white
fruits dominate the palate.
2009 O'Reilly's Pinot Noir, Oregon, Pinot Noir $24.99 a bottle, $254.90 for a case, or
$21.24 a
bottle as part of a
mixed case
"Our fruit for the 2009 O'Reilly's Pinot Noir was sourced from several small vineyards throughout the Willamette Valley. The warmth of the '09 growing season in this region yielded beautifully ripe fruit with bright acidity and rich flavors. This Pinot Noir is well balanced with vibrant red fruit aromatics of cherry, blueberry and rose. A rich jammy fruit mid palate finishes with pie crust, cola and a hint of cinnamon spice. Enjoy this excellent example of Oregon Pinot Noir with your favorite grilled salmon recipie, chanterelle mushroom risotto, or just by itself with a good friend. "
