 Greetings!

This weekend we will be tasting what I like to call Bistro wines.
These are delicious wines that drink great with food.
Imagine you are in Provence sitting outside at a table watching the people go by,  laughing, carefree while you sip on a light, delightful, crisp, cold glass of Rose´.  Sounds good doesn't it? Come on by and taste a bit of Provence here in Oldwick,  you'll love the wines!

FRIDAY'S TASTING:

2009 Domaine Houchart
Cotes de Provence Rose´

$13.99 a bottle, $142.70 for a case, or $11.89 a bottle as part of a mixed case

A fresh Rose´ with a pretty salmon pink color made from a blend of Rhone and Bordeaux varietals. The grapes were fermented separately before tank aging. This is more time consuming and is certainly worth the effort!  The aromas reveal citrus and strawberries with elegant flavors of red berries and watermelon. There are mineral notes and a clean easy finish. The wine is lingering, refreshing, lip-smacking and full of charm.
2008 Handley
Anderson Valley, Gewurztraminer
$15.99 a bottle, $163.10 for a case, or $13.59 a bottle as part of a mixed case

This vintage of Gewurztraminer offers enticing aromas of rose petals, honeysuckle, peaches, peach fuzz,
and orange zest. The aromas are complemented by the balanced palate, which offers flavors of pears, melon, lychee, and a hint of nutmeg spice on the finish. This is a nice wine to have as an appertif or with Asian cuisine.

2008 Chateau Saintongey
$15.99 a bottle, $163.10 for a case, or $13.59 a bottle as part of a mixed case

This wine is a very good example of how the wine is a fresh example of terroir, perfect for everyday drinking. It reveals good body, density, and richness. Terrific complexity, loads of red fruit, and a very well balanced wine. Start speaking French, sit at a little table on the avenue, and sip on this wine with a juicy burger! It works.

MAY
WINES of the
MONTH

ITALY IN OLDWICK!

2009 PASQUALE PELISSERO CROSÉ ROSATO
$19.99 a bottle, $203.90 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case

All Nebbiolo from Barbaresco vineyards, this rose pink Rosato opens with fresh strawberry on the nose, to sheer elegance on the palate, featuring
a lingering grassy note reminiscent
of great Sauvignon Blanc. Mineral, clean finish. Made exclusively in stainless-steel, this wine is made from
a first, pre-harvest selection of Nebbiolo bunches from their famed San Giuliano vineyard. Structured and intense, this pairs great with fish dishes.

ASSISI GRECHETTO
SPORTOLETTI 2008

$17.99 a bottle, $183.50 for a case, or $15.30 a bottle as part of a mixed case

This wine is made from grapes grown in mineral-rich soils, harvested at 300 meters above sea level, and where cool nights and warm sunny days ensure balance and freshness. This crisp white with its deep golden hue is left to macerate on its skins for 6 hours allowing for maximum concentration. It features notes of honey, pear, and white blossoms.
Summer nights in a bottle!

MASCARELLO DOLCETTO
D' ALBA BRICCO 2007
$22.99 a bottle, $234.50 for a case, or $19.54 a bottle as part of a mixed case

The 2007 Dolcetto d'Alba Bricco is
a very pretty wine laced with perfumed red fruit. Lots of intensity up front, the Bricco remains a very traditional style of Dolcetto. The sheer vibrancy of the fruit of this vintage helps balance some of the more rustic elements that are present. This is a very beautiful vintage for the Bricco. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013.

2004 RENDOLA
BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO
$39.99 a bottle, $407.89 for a case, or $33.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case

Shows floral and plum aromas with freshly cut wood. Full-bodied, bright cherry and plum character on the palate, with a hint of vanilla. Silky and delicious. Best after 2010.
