FRIDAY'S WINE TASTINGS:

CHATEAU DU ROUET COTES
DU PROVENCE ROSE´ 2009

$15.99 a bottle, $163.10 for a case, or $13.59 bottle as part of a mixed case.

This wine has a delicate salmon color,  with intensive notes of raspberry and cassis on the nose. It has loads of fresh fruit, yet, has the elegance we expect from a Rose´ from Provence. The grape blend is sixty percent Grenache and 40 percent Syrah.
The wine is produced from first-press and saignee juice, leaving the skins in for just a bit of color. Offers terrific volume and length. Rouet is bottled in a traditional, clear hourglass-shaped bottle, making it as eye-catching as the wine is delightful.

DO FERREIRO ALBARINO 2007
$27.99 a bottle, $285.50 for a case, or $23.79 a bottle as part of a mixed case

Located in the Salnes Valley of Rias Baixas, Do Ferreiro is a relatively young winery with a very old past. This family-owned winery was founded in 1973,  and the current owner Gerardo Mendez sources the grapes from five hectares of vineyards that have been in his family for generations. The Salnes Valley is known throughout the region as being the best sub-zone of Rias Baixas. This ocean-facing bowl creates a unique terroir, that distinguishes the Salnes Valley from the rest of Rias Baixas. Believing that great wine is made through a balance of terroir and wine-making, Gerardo seeks to preserve the terroir by taking great care and adhering to organic principles in the cultivation of the grapes.

PATRICIA GREEN CELLARS
"EASON"
DUNDEE HILLS PINOT NOIR 2008
$34.99 a bottle, $356.90 for a case, or $29.75 a bottle as part of a mixed case

This Dundee Hills vineyard is an oldy (by Oregon standards) at 24 years old and one that Patricia Green has been managing since 1994. Patty said that this may be her favorite vineyard and the one that she feels is the most "dialed in" as far as winemaking goes.  The history and relationship Patty has with this site shows in the glass.  This is a beautiful, hearty wine with sour strawberry fruits a nice earthiness and long finish, with a gaminess and density to it that's tough to find at this price. With only several hundred cases produced you'll want to get some while they last.

APRIL
WINES of the
MONTH

MENDEL MALBEC 2007
$32.99 a bottle, $336.50 for a case, or $28.04 a bottle as part of
a mixed case

Mendel's 2007 Malbec was sourced from a 45-acre parcel of 80-year-old vines in Lujan de Cuyo and aged for 12 months in French oak. Purple-colored, it displays an alluring bouquet of cedar, spice box, violets, and black cherry. Medium-bodied and elegant on the palate, it has plenty of savory fruit, cinnamon and allspice notes, excellent depth and concentration, and a fruit-filled finish. This stylish effort will evolve for 2-3 years and deliver prime drinking from 2011 to 2019.

MOMO SAUVIGNON BLANC 2009
$19.99 a bottle, $203.90 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case

Light and citrusy, with grapefruit, tangerine and green melon flavors that linger on the bright, juicy finish. Momo Sauvignon Blanc is made from a blend of fruit from vineyards located on the plains of the Wairau Valley of Marlborough. The grapes were picked in the late evening and early morning to ensure the fruit was cool when it reached the winery. The palate has depth and complexity with a hint of minerality. Delicious with all types of seafood and summer salads, or just by itself as a refreshing aperitif. I like this wine's purity and dusty texture.

CHATEAU DU ROUET
COTES DU PROVENCE ROSE´ 2009

$15.99 a bottle, $163.10 for a case, or $13.59 a bottle as part of a mixed case

Delicate salmon coloured wine. Intensive notes of raspberry and cassis on the nose. Fresh, fruity and elegant flavours on the palate. Volume and length. A blend of 60 % Grenache and 40 % Syrah, this wine is produced from first-press and saignee juice. Rouet is bottled in a traditional, clear hourglass-shaped bottle, making it as eye-catching as the wine is delightful.
