Greetings!
It's September! Time to go back to school, watch football all weekend long (Who do you think will be in the Superbowl? Who do you think with win the BCS?), perhaps enjoy quiet weekends down on the shore, and of course try new wines!
September is an active month in our business. New wines and spirits hit the market and Octoberfest beers appear on the shelves. We are making room for all the terrific new releases and are very excited about what Fall will bring. Of course we have all your favorites and continue to obtain those hard to find bottles, while we add new and exciting wines from around the world.
We look forward to seeing you in the store throughout the month. The September Wines of the Month and the wines featured this Friday are detailed below. We look forward to seeing you over the weekend and helping you choose a few to try. On to the details!

September's Wines of the Month:
|
Sitios de Bodega Con Class Rueda 2008 $12.99 a bottle, $132.48 for a case, or $11.04 a bottle as part of a mixed case The attention to detail when making this wine contributes to its freshness as it captures the essence of the Verdejo grape grown in Northwest Spain close to the Portuguese border. This even includes picking the grapes in the middle of the night! The result is a very well made wine with a pale straw color. Aromas of grapefruit and tropical fruits leap from the glass with touches of grass notes. Citrus and herbal flavors fill this light bodied wine, while herbal notes linger on the finish. Crisp, dry and delicious! If you love Sancerre, White Bordeaux, or New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc you have to try this wine!
|
Chateau Graville-Lacoste 2008 $19.99 a bottle, $203.88 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Chateau Graville-Lacoste is a 20 acre property located in the Graves district of Bordeaux. Graves is the area within Bordeaux known to produce the best dry white Bordeaux. Owned by Herve DuBourdieu, he is the sixth generation in his family to grow vines in Bordeaux. The strength of his experience coupled with the terroir of Graves, result in a delicious, dry, white Bordeaux! Made from Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and a touch of Muscadelle the wine is crisp and refreshing, with touches of honey and melon. Perfect for the late days of summer!

Breggo Pinot Gris Wiley Vineyard 2008 $29.99 a bottle, $305.88 for a case, or $25.49 a bottle as part of a mixed case
This is one of the best examples of American Pinot Gris. Available in limited quantities we snagged the rest that was available in New Jersey and we know it will go fast! A classic Wiley Vineyard Pinot Gris, the intensity of this wine continues to astound. Rich aromas of verbena and white peaches mingle with hints of orange peel and marzipan. Notes of roasted hazelnuts and meringue are layered with aromas of Asian pear and bees wax. The length and texture of this wine can only be described as unctuous. Flavors of orange and grapefruit expand in the mouth as the weight and breadth of the palate is carried to a long finish by the crisp acidity. This is Robert Parker's favorite Pinot Gris outside of Alsace. Grab some before it disappears!
|
Marramiero Dama Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2007 $17.99 a bottle, $184.48 for a case, or $15.29 a bottle as part of a mixed case
A terrific wine for your weeknight meals! The Dama Montepulciano has more depth and concentration of flavors than other Montepulciano wines, and this depth is even noticeable with the deep red striking tones of color. With the first sniff you'll notice nuances of black cherry, currants, vanilla and licorice. It's rich body is filled with red fruit, spice, and earth. The Dama has a substantial harmonious structure and a dry mellow taste. Put all this together and the Marramiero Dama Montepulciano is a great overall value.
|
Johnson Family Cabernet Sauvignon 2007 $22.99 a bottle, $234.48 for a case, or $19.54 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Johnson Family
does it again with this delicious Napa Valley Cabernet! The wine is a
deep ruby color with tinges of purple. On the nose blackberries jump from
the glass along with floral notes, creme de cassis and rich spices. With
the first sip you are greeted with big rich berries, licorice, well
integrated tannins and a full body structure. Opulent, full-bodied, and
fruit-forward, it is drinking well now, but will also age well. This is a terrific, well-made, balanced Cabernet that really
delivers. Hallelujah!!

D'este Vino El Molinet 2007 $14.99 a bottle, $152.88 for a case, or $12.74 a bottle as part of a mixed a case.
There are some wonderful wines being made in Spain these days and we think this is one of them. Also, we believe it is a great value. From D'este Vino in Valencia, the wine is 85% Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon making up the rest of the blend. The reason the Cabernet is added is to allow the winery to maintain continuity across vintages since Tempranillo can vary from one vintage to the next when it is planted at higher altitudes. Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar reviewed the wine and awarded it 90 points. They wrote, "Deep, bright red. Fresh red berry and baking spice aromas are strikingly brisk and focused. Racy, light-bodied raspberry and cherry flavors are unencumbered by tannins but nicely framed by juicy acidity. Pinot-like in its vivacious, red-fruit expression and firm finishing cut. This is really delicious."
