Greetings!
Happy Fourth of July! What a great weekend we are going to have. Hopefully with our family and friends we will celebrate, watch lots of fireworks, and remember what an absolute great country we live in! Of course we can do this while eating and having a couple of celebratory drinks, too!
Since it is time to get ready for the holiday, we are having four tastings in the store. One each on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We are featuring wines that are perfect for entertaining and all are terrific values. Below, please see what we will be showing on Thursday and Friday. For the weekend, we will dazzle you with our picks. It's going to be a surprise! We look forward to seeing you over the next few days to help choose those perfect bottles or cases for your July 4th get-togethers.

Domaine du Cote Tariquet 2006

Looking for an easy to drink summer white? We found it and it is delicious! From the southwest of France in Gascony this is a pretty unique blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. It has a distinctive bouquet of fine intense floral notes, some minerality, and an underlying suggestion of ripe grapes. The freshness is evident with the first sip, as is the attractive intensity of flavors. It is absolutely delightful to drink in the summer. Just try it, you'll love it!

Berberano Number One Tempranillo 2005

This is a terrific red wine for the summer! From Spain, it is a very easy drinking Tempranillo filled with cherry and berry fruit. Bodegas Berberana is one of the oldest and finest names in Rioja. Known for its consistent quality and range of wines both traditional and modern, Berberana is at the forefront of modern winemaking technology whilst at the same time mindful of the tradition and history that has made Rioja one of the classic wine regions of the world. This is a great example of Tempranillo at a fantastic price. Come in and try it!

Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008

This Sauvignon Blanc is a customer favorite! We have featured this winery for several years and the 2008 Sauvignon Blanc is another winner. The Marlborough region in the northeastern corner of New Zealand's South Island is world reknown for their Sauvignon Blancs. This wine is definitely zesty and aromatic with lots of lively, penetrating fruit characters. It has a concentration of tropical and gooseberry flavors with an abundant bouquet. It is a wine that is always crisp, elegant and refreshing. If you love what has come to define New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, you will love this wine.

Domaine des Aubuisieres Cuvee de Silex Vouvray 2008
$19.99 a bottle, $203.88 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case
We've had several requests for Vouvray and we found one that is sure to delight! Vouvray is made from Chenin Blanc grown in the Loire Valley of France. The bouquet is full of flowers, jellied white currants, lemon and mint. Utterly transparent in the mouth the wine billows to floral perfume and minerality. This refreshes the mind and palate with the utmost subtlety and complexity, its balance is uncanny. An incredible wine, especially at this price - it is a tremendous value!

Loios Vinho Tinto 2007

Loios is a wine produced in the Alentejo region, located in southern Portugal. Its name originates from the title given in the 15th century to the members of the ancient Priest Congregation of St. John Evangelist, known simply as Loios. The Loios Vinho Tinto is a blend of traditional red varieties from this region; such as Aragonês, Trincadeira, and Castelão. After careful selection and pressing, the juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks, perfectly preserving the unique, fresh fruit character of each variety. This easy drinking red shows an intensely fruity aroma, jammy and meaty all at the same time. Soft and easy going, it is nevertheless able to complement all cuisines. Perfect with barbecue, tomato based pasta dishes, or even a pizza.
