Greetings!
Happy Father's Day! In honor of Father's Day we have a couple of special tastings this weekend at the store. On Friday we will feature three wines that are sure to please this weekend. On Saturday, we will have a special Port tasting in the afternoon. Details on the tastings are below.
To help you find that perfect gift for your Dad, we have several suggestions that are guaranteed to delight. Let us help you bring a smile to his face. Here are a few:
- That perfect bottle of wine. Perhaps a California Cabernet, a Bordeaux or one of the kings of Italy, Brunello or Barolo. We will help you select the perfect wine. If you would like we can prepare your case selection in a beautiful wooden wine box to make it extra special.
- A membership for 3 months, 6 months, or even a year to one of our Wine Clubs. Our Wine Clubs make great gifts that Dad can enjoy for months to come. To take a closer look at the different clubs see below, we have this month's selections listed for each club!
- A special bottle of Scotch, Bourbon, or Port for after dinner. My husband loves Scotch. What about your Dad? Why not get a bottle of his favorite or dazzle him with a surprise... perhaps an aged Scotch from 1964, 1968, 1971, 1976, 1983, 1984 - the year he was born, graduated, got married or had you!
- A special Father's Day gift collection. Choose from our Italian, French or All American Cab gift packs. We can hand pick a selection just for you or you can choose from those we have ready to go!
- Gift cards are a terrific alternative. Let Dad decide for himself! We can customize the dollar amount to whatever tickles your fancy.
We look forward to seeing you and helping you choose those perfect bottles or case!

Wines for Friday's Tasting
|
Alois Lageder Sudtirol AltoAdige Chardonnay 2007 $17.99 a bottle, $183.48 for a case, or $15.29 a bottle as part of a mixed case
This Chardonnay from the Sudtirol Alto Adige in Northern Italy is a
brilliant, straw-yellow color with light green hints. The aroma is
delicate with pronounced notes of subtropical fruit. There is a lot of
flavor, a good, medium-bodied structure, coupled with lively acidity. It is perfect as an aperitif, with starters, salads, all types of seafood, chicken, and pasta.
|
Seavey Vineyards Caravina Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 $52.99 a bottle, $540.48 for a case, or $45.04 a bottle as part of a mixed case
This is a delicious California Cab! "The
2005 Caravina (100% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1,100 cases produced) is
showing even better this year than last. Gorgeous fudge/chocolate notes
intermixed with blackberry and cassis, sweet silky tannins, and a long
finish with no hard edges, make for a delicious wine already showing
complexity and best drunk over the next 10 years." Robert Parker, 92
points
|
Podere la Vigna Brunello di Montalcino 2004 $64.99 a bottle, $662.88 for a case, or $55.24 a bottle as part of a mixed case
This fabulous Montalcino has just arrived and it is delicious! "Sweet
blackberry and cherry aromas, with a hint of vanilla. Full-bodied, with
a solid core of fruit and chewy tannins. There's a lot underneath this
wine. Huge density. Wonderful balance. Best wine ever from this small
and serious producer. Best after 2012. 1,085 cases produced" Wine Spectator, 95 points.

Ports for Saturday's Tasting: Tawny Ports and
Vintage Ports are distinctly different in style. Come in and try these
and see what the differences are really all about.
|
Graham's Vintage Port 2000 $129.99 a bottle, $1325.88 for a case, or $110.49 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Our first port selection is a Vintage Port from the 2000 vintage. Port "shippers" only produce Vintage Ports in years they beleive are exceptional. With just one sip you will discover why they are praised! "Grapy,
unformed, black raspberry liqueur and licorice-infused cassis notes
leap from the glass of this opaque purple-colored wine. Sweet, plush,
rich, and accessible, it is a forward, lush, concentrated effort that
should drink well for two decades. While not one of Graham's most
profound ports, it should evolve rapidly, providing immense crowd
appeal." Robert Parker, 94 points.
|
Bernesh Bray Tawny Port $54.99 a bottle, $560.88 for a case, or $46.74 a bottle as part of a mixed case
A delicious port style wine brought to us from the other side of the world, Australia. "The
light ruby/garnet-colored non-vintage Tawny Port Bernesh Bray offers
stunningly exuberant, flamboyant aromatics. Made from a blend of ten
vintages of Grenache (1990-1999), and fortified with neutral grape
spirit, it possesses that penetrating fig/raisin/nutty character along
with sweet red and black fruits as well as a hint of marmalade. Sweet,
but not cloying, it is another example of just how special these after
dinner fortified wines can be from Australia." Robert Parker 93 points.

June's Wines of the Month:
Huia Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2008 $22.99 a bottle, $234.48 for a case, or $19.54 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Huia Vineyards has an
enviable reputation in New Zealand, and with the 2008 they show off that reputation. This wine
shows a good aromatic intensity with bright herbaceous notes, ripe
citrus, and just a touch of the New Zealand gosseberry (but definitely
not too much). It is layered with flavors ranging from passionfruit,
melon and pineapple to lemon zest and shows an excellent length and
depth on the palate. It is delicious with fish and seafood. We love
this wine!
Talbot Logan Monterey Chardonnay 2007 $19.99 a bottle, $203.88 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case
The 2007 vintage of Logan
displays the appealing qualities that have come to define this wine. In the bouquet, aromas
of kiwi and guava mingle with notes of vanilla and toast. On the
palate, the wine displays a rich mouthfeel, excellent structure and
good balance. The initial impression offers lush tropical fruit
followed by a citrus and mineral mid-palate and a long, satisfying
brioche finish. Sounds tempting ... doesn't it! It's going fast and you don't want to miss out!
Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Toscana IGT 2006 $12.99 a bottle, $132.48 for a case, or $11.04 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Known for delivering wines that
exemplify the quality potential of the Montalcino region of Tuscany,
Ciacci wines are real pleasers. The Toscana IGT is their everyday wine
just waiting to be paired with something delicious. Fruity, lightly herbal with hints
of spice, this wine is ready to be enjoyed. It is full bodied, soft
and balanced, crafted as a blend of mostly Sangiovese.
Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur Champigny Rouge 2008 $19.99 a bottle, $203.88 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case
This is a must try, and is
a wonderful wine for the summer. Very accessible which means easy to
drink in wine-speak! It is supple and silky, is a dark garnet in color
with an intense nose of red-berry fruits and a whiff of cocoa.
Gorgeous! At only 12.5% alcohol, it is perfect for lunches and
entertaining in the afternoon too! The palate is mouth-filling and
deliciously packed with raspberries and chocolate notes.
