Greetings!
Yes, summer is here! It is time to light up that grill, enjoy all that "Jersey Fresh" has to offer, and, of course, we are here to help you pick the perfect wines for this time of the year!
- With our white wine selections for the summer we look for wines that are bright, crisp and refreshing. A wine that is easy to drink and pairs beautifully with summer salads and some of the lighter fare. It is a terrific time to try something a little different, perhaps from Austria or Spain. Some of our summer suggestions include:
- Weingut Schwarzbock Gruner Veltliner 2008 (featured below), $12.99
- Bodega Pirineos Mesache Blanco 2007, $12.99
- Talbott's Logan Chardonnay 2007 (featured below), $19.99
- Cote Tariquet 2006 Blow-out Special $13.99
- Rosés are a natural match for the summer. The rosés we are talking about are crisp, dry and refreshing, not cloyingly sweet. They pair beautifully with so many different styles of food, so you will want to keep a few on hand for those warm summer nights. A few for to try include:
- Lacrima Christi del Vesuvio Rosé 2007, $17.99
- Citadelle Cuvee Chataignier Rosé 2008, $15.99
- Domaine la Monardiere Vacqueyras Rosé 2008 (one of May's Featured Wines)$17.99
- Domaine Ott Chateau de Selle Rosé 2007, $42.99
- For red wines we lighten up with some of our selections, but for others we go for the gusto - especially when grilling. We love Zinfandels and Malbecs when we are grilling beef and find that some of the blends from areas around the world with naturally hot temperatures also do the trick...
- Klinker Brick Winery Zinfandel, $19.99
- Fabre Montmayour Gran Reserva Malbec 2007 (featured below), $24.99
- Anima Negra AN2 (featured below), $25.99
- Les Garrigues Cotes-Du Rhone 2007, $14.99
- Berberana Tempranillo #1 2005, $10.99
As you get ready to enjoy the first weekend of summer, let us help you pick out a few wines. We'll be opening several of these perfect for summer wines on Friday and all weekend for you to try.
If you miss us on Friday, don't worry we'll be happy to help you select a few for you to enjoy this weekend and all summer long. Just try our Memorial Day Summer Sampler including all four of the white wines mentioned above, three of the rosés, and the five reds for just $192.69 for the case - even with the tax! That's just $16 a bottle!!!!

Fun Summer Wines for Friday's Tasting:
|
Weingut Schwarzbock Gruner Veltliner 2008 $12.99 a bottle, $132.48 for a case, or $11.04 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Weingut Schwarzbock can be found just on the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. They offer this terrific Gru-Ve (a much easier and trendier way to say Gruner Veltliner!) that is perfect for those warm summer afternoons and sipping in the sun. Crisp and dry, it's packed with ripe fruit, minerality and touches of herbs. Delicious with simply grilled fish or chicken, or even a salad. And yes with a screw-top it is perfect for picnics!! In a special full liter bottle, you will definitely want to grab a few while they are here!
|
Talbot Logan Chardonnay 2007 $19.99 a bottle, $203.88 for a case, or $16.99 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Sometimes, no matter what the season, a Chardonnay is just perfect. And this one with simply grilled pork chops would be just that - perfect. This is the fourth vintage of Talbot's Logan Chardonnay that we are offering in the store. The 2007 vintage of Logan displays the appealing qualities that have come to define this wine. The color is medium-straw with great clarity. In the bouquet, aromas of kiwi and guava mingle with notes of vanilla and toast. On the palate, the wine displays a rich mouthfeel, excellent structure and good balance. The initial impression offers lush tropical fruit followed by a citrus and mineral mid-palate and a long, satisfying brioche finish. Sounds tempting ... doesn't it!
|
Anima Negra AN/2 2005 $25.99 a bottle, $265.08 for a case, or $22.09 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Summer sun, perhaps it brings island hopping to mind? How about Mallorca off the coast of Spain? Can't leave tonight? Well, we will bring a little of Mallorca to you! Anima Negra is located in the southeast part of the island and AN/2 really showcases the potential of winemaking on the island and the beauty of one of their indigenous grapes - Callet. It is harmonious, complex and elegant. A delicious pick for the summer.
Robert Parker awarded the wine 91 points and wrote, "... AN/2 is made from 65% Callet, 20% Mantonegre-Fogoneu, and 15% Syrah. The wine was aged for 12 months in French and American oak, 70% new. Medium- to dark ruby-colored, it offers up a complex aromatic array of pain grille, spice box, wild raspberry, and black cherry reminiscent of quality Pinot Noir. Silky and elegant on the palate, the fruit is ripe and intense, the wine long, balanced, and stylish. Drink it over the next 4-6 years." We really think you should try one over the weekend!
|
Fabre Montmayour Gran Reserva Malbec 2007 $24.99 a bottle, $254.88 for a case, or $21.24 a bottle as part of a mixed case
Ok, truth be told I will be grilling some steak this weekend and this is my pick for pairing with my steak! As we have mentioned a few times, Argentine Malbec and beef are just made for one another. And if you haven't tried this Malbec yet, you just have to try it! You don't know what you have been missing.
Robert Parker awarded the wine 92 points and wrote, "Red color with shiny violet tones. Very complex and elegant bouquet. Plenty of wild red fruits like blackberries and cherries, liquorish and delicate hints of flowers. On the palate, the wine shows a remarkable balance with very elegant, delicate and silky tannins. Great combined with red meats, games, rich cheeses, and chocolate."
