Dear Faithful People of Saint Peter's Church:
160 guests ate breakfast this past Tuesday morning, the largest number of guests in our history. Men and women. Old and young. Veterans of our two most recent wars. Immigrants and asylum seekers. Most homeless. Many employed, or better, underemployed. Three pastors -- Kevin O'Hara, Mark Erson and I -- were present to serve , as usual, with members of each of our parishes, Watson Bosler and Bruce Johnson from Saint Peter's, along with others who volunteer through New York Cares. I watched this scene on Tuesday morning knowing that we would serve the same number of guests with Momentum at noon and 5:00 (for a daily total nearing 500) and I couldn't help but think about the words of this Sunday's Gospel, "he [Jesus] was made known to them in the breaking of the bread." Beginning at the altar, all our tables are Christ's. At each, Christ is made known. Something to think about.
Again I recommend your attendance at our 10:00 Forums this Sunday as Lucinda Mosher continues part 2 of a three-week series WHAT JEWS WANT CHRISTIANS TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW TESTAMENT.
Rites of healing will be included in all liturgies on April 29, the Fourth Sunday of Easter.
Looking ahead, I remind you of three major parish events:
- Saturday, May 19 at 4:00 p.m., our annual Memorial Vespers
- Sunday, May 27 , the Day of Pentecost
- Sunday, June 3, Holy Trinity, The First Sunday after Pentecost -- at 11:00 a.m. that day we will celebrate my fifteen years of ministry together with you and inaugurate our 150th Anniversary celebration.
- Sunday, June 10, following the 11:00 a.m. mass, our Annual Congregational Meeting to act on the 2012-2013 budget.
Details on all of the above will follow.
Please continue to keep Pastor Damm, who is currently housebound, and Pastor Spellman in your prayers, along with Howard Blohm who is recovering quite well at home.
Peace and Joy,
Amandus J. Derr
Senior Pastor

PLEASE HELP JAY NEW YORK
Last summer's hurricane Irene created some inconvenience, but little damage to New York City. However, our northern neighbors in Jay (a small Adirondack town) were so severely damaged by this "once in 500-year storm" that they may not ever recover. The town's three hamlets of: Jay, Upper Jay, and Au Sable Forks, lost thousands of trees, its roads and bridges were damaged, as were many homes.
The community has organized relief efforts, but their local resources have not been sufficient for their needs, and they have asked for help from others. New York State and some other relief organizations have participated, but more is needed.
If you are interested in more information and helping to rebuild the town, please visit, http://www.helpjayny.org/events.html.
Donations are tax deductible, and they really need your assistance.

THE MOMENTUM PROJECT
The Momentum Project continues to serve all those with food security issues: the disabled, the unemployed, the homeless, seniors, families with children, and those enduring serious illnesses. Due to severe budget cuts, volunteers are needed for the lunch and dinner program on Tuesdays at Saint Peter's Church:
Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for lunch.
Tuesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for dinner.
If you would like to help with the catering staff and make a difference in your community, please call the Momentum Volunteer Manager, Charles Vaccaro, at 212-691-8100 extension 2104.
SAINT PETER'S BREAKFAST PROGRAM
On Tuesday 160 guests were fed this past Tuesday. So far, we've served 2,647 guests in 2012. 7,643 guests were served in 2011.
To volunteer, come to the front desk between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday mornings.
