We have Dreams for 2011...
Chacraseca Clinic: As part of the Okla State Medical School PartnerTrip in December, a small group of Okies and Nica's did some major repairs to the clinic -- new walls, new tables & exam beds, new doors, and fresh paint (hospital green!)!
AND 2 miscroscopes were donated for the small lab JustHope Partners are building in the clinic! (Thank you Gerry Miller of St. John's Hospital, Tulsa; and First Christian Church of Harrisonville, MO)
Our dreams for 2011...
1) Complete the lab which will allow people to get critcal blood and urine tests, and women to get pap results in 3 days instead of 3 months!
2) Add a window and fans for ventilation; replace front bars with blinds that will close during dust or rain storms.

Sonado Juntos Ferreteria: The Grand Opening of the "Dreaming Together Hardware Store" is just a couple of weeks away! The building for this first-ever women-managed commercial business in Chacraseca has been completed and the inventory purchased! AND even before officially opening, they've already had several customers!
Our Dreams for 2011...
1) Lots of customers! And ongoing donations for inventory - our goal is to be self-sustainable after 6-12 months.
2) $3000 to open a "cafetin" (small cafe) right next to the Ferreteria. There's not one in Chacraseca and this is a perfect place for folks to buy their hammers AND a bowl of 'gallo pinto.'

A High School in Santa Emilia: There are over 100 young people in Santa Emilia and LaFlor who are hoping to continue their high school education this year (7th-11th grades), but it all depends on two things -- approval from the government and funds to pay the teachers. A small committee has been working for several months to get MINED (Ministry of Education) approval and are just a few pieces of paperwork away. JustHope Partners in Cheney and Phoenix have been raising the $6000 to pay 2-3 teachers for this first year.
Our Dreams for 2011...
1) That it will all come together in time to begin the 2011 school year in Feb!
2) $1000 to purchase desks, and basic school supplies for the students.

Other Dreams for 2011...
Micro-credit for Housing: Families in Chacraseca and Santa Emilia are dreaming of a micro-credit bank that will make small loans for them to do minor but critical repairs on their homes
Latrines: Many families in Santa Emilia, LaFlor, and Chacraseca are dreaming of building a real latrine to replace their hole in the ground surrounded by plastic.
Funds for Spring Crops: Farmers wiped out by too much rain are dreaming of finding the funds to replant their crops in May. It takes an average farmer in Chacraseca $150 to plant 2 acres of land.
Operating Funds: JustHope is dreaming of some donor partners who will pledge to help cover our monthly operating costs. $20 per mo will cover postage; $40 per mo will cover our email newsletter service; $100 per mo will pay cell phone costs for our Nicaraguan staff (Elba and Julio); $250 per mo will pay one Nica staff salary. Our operating costs are less than 5% of our total budget -- that's well below most non-profits.
