Choose Your "Gift of Hope" Project:
LOANING HOPE!
JustHope has micro-credit projects which support women's enterprises in Chacraseca and Santa Emilia. The microcredit loans are for small businesses including sewing, jewelry-making, small pulperias (stores); poultry/pork raising; bakeries, etc. Woman work in small groups to decide on each woman's project, apply for JustHope loans, start the enterprise; and repay the loan.

BUILDING A CLINIC LABORATORY!
JustHope sustains a small clinic in Chacraseca that serves an average of 500 patients per week. Patients have to travel to the nearest city of lab tests, and it often takes up to 3 months to get the results. We are working to establish a small laboratory where simple blood & urine tests, and pap smears can be processed quickly and locally. $25 provides blood or urine testing for a day; $50 will process women's pap smears within 3 days.
"DREAMING TOGETHER" Ferreteria (Hardware Store)
A women's cooperative business in Chacraseca, Nicaragua
The average income of Chacraseca, Nicaragua's 8000 residents is $1 per day, and unemployment is about 90%. Women are particularly hard hit as they have less education, fewer resources and fewer opportunities. In addition, about 70% of the households in Chacraseca are headed by women. JustHope is working to increase economic possibilities for women, both through micro-credit loans for individual women, and through women-managed collaborative projects such as this Hardware Store.
"BECAS" (School Scholarships)
School is free in Nicaragua, but students need clothes, shoes, supplies, and transportation to attend. $40 a year provides one child with a uniform, shoes, socks, backpack, and notebooks and pencils. $70 a year provides tuition, books, and a uniform for one student to attend secondary (high) school.
"BANDING TOGETHER"
There are no community services or activities for youth in Chacraseca --EXCEPT the high school band. Young people are clamoring to be part of it, but there are not enough instruments for all the youth, and many of the ones they have need repair. JustHope is helping the band put new heads on drums, repair xylophones, and acquire some new (or used) brass instruments! $100 buys an instrument; $50 renews a drum; $25 buys drum sticks and straps.
