  , as the birthday of Scouting approaches, we pause to review the packed Council plate of anniversary activities in celebration of our history and anticipation of the next Century and beyond grounded in the Scout Oath and Law. 
 

January 22, 2010 - Hawkeye Area Council Recognition Dinner - Honors the 112 Eagle Scouts in the Class of 2009, a dedicated new round of Silver Beavers, and you the Council volunteer. Thank you!

 
Now Through March 2010 - Scouting History exhibit at the Johnson County Historical Society
 
May 1, 2010 - 100 Years Photo at Kinnick Stadium  - Plan to join this historic moment when hundreds of Scouters spell out "100 Years" on the field at Kinnick Stadium. Stick around for a tour of this local iconic location.

 

June 18-20, 2010 - Adventure Base 100 at Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival - Your volunteer strength is needed as this mobile Scouting museum makes one of only 43 stops across the county in our Council. More information will be announced soon.

 

July 16 and August 7, 2010 - Pitch for Scouting with the Cedar Rapids Kernels - Scouts will participate in game opening ceremonies, 7th inning stretch activities and shagging foul balls. A Scouts only VIP tour of Perfect Game Field will be conducted, as well as continuiong the tradition of all Scouts and their sibilings setting up and sleeping in the outfield after the game. A ballpark fare buffet and movie shown on the stadium's big screen will make this a night to remember for all involved.

 

Summer 2010 - Councilwide Geocaching - Look for more info soon on these 12 locations to tie to the 12 points of the Scout Law

 

September 11-12, 2010 - Council Camporee at the Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation - For 100 years, outdoor expoerience has been a key part of the leadership development and character education of Scouting. Bring your favorite Camp memories and join this historic gathering.

 

Block By Block logoService & Eagle Projects Available in CR Through Block By Block  

Life Scouts, now is a great time to plan for your Eagle Service project! Block By Block, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing flooded Cedar Rapids neighborhood back to life has ongoing Eagle projects available for your consideration including painting, installing cabinets and more. For more information, contact Matt Mayer, Project Manager at (319) 350-2252 or matt@hub25.org   
 
Remember, up to 50% of flood-related Eagle project supply cost funding may be available through the Eagle Strike Force program. For more information, visit the news article at the bottom of the

Additionally, any unit looking for a service project may contact Matt for more information on the Block by Block Finish Line Houses. This project involves helping flood-impacted families finish the final "punch list" items like trim work and painting in their homes. Late this spring, garden projects will also be available. Contact Matt for further details. Your consideration is appreciated!
