HHCSR signCamp Impacts ScoutReach Youth

For the first time, Hawkeye Area Council hosted ScoutReach for one day at Camp close to the 4th of July. Many of these youth experienced their first significant outdoor enjoyment at the Howard H. Cherry Scout Reservation.

"Seeing the ScoutReach youth open up to a whole new level of learning at Camp was inspiring," said Travis Christopher, Scout Executive/CEO. "Their visit was another great reminder of how it's all about the kids we have the honor of serving."

An entire ScoutReach camp with overnights is in the works for 2010. Thanks to Frank Sladek, Paul Swanson and the entire ScoutReach committee who made this inaugural experience happen!

The Hawkeye Area Council ScoutReach program provides leadership development and character education to hundreds of local youth who wouldn't otherwise have access to Scouting. The program is made possible by wonderful Scouting supporters like you.

 Wood BadgeAttention Woodbadge Graduates

A wise and all knowing Owl has pointed out that the new Scout Executive, Travis Christopher had not been to Wood Badge, an omission that is being corrected this October.  The Great  Question, of course, is which patrol should Travis be placed in.  Clearly he should be an Owl, but in fairness, the staff has elected to open it for a vote.

So all graduates of Wood Badge, here is your chance to decide on the critternessof the new Scout Executive.  For a donation to the Wood Badge Fund, ($1 to $5 typical)you can cast a vote on whether Travis should Hoot, Bark, Growl, Chirp, Screech, Snort, or simply gnaw on wood.

Votes and donation can be dropped off at the Scout Office or sent to the Staff Owl:
