Many years ago, I had the opportunity to volunteer for a new diversion opportunity for youth in the Twin Cities area.  This new initiative was for first-time non-violent youth offenders. The program allowed them to take part in an intensive community service and education effort. Upon successful completion, their charge would be dropped and record cleared.  I had a great time! It was rewarding to see young people take value in their community and learn about their impact on society, their neighborhood and friends.  By the way, the new program was coordinated by the Boy Scouts of America - my first volunteer role in Scouting!

Criminal Justice was nothing new to me. I spent six years as a Crime Prevention Specialist for local police agencies in Minnesota. I knew the value of character education.  Little did I know that a few years later, my life would go even further into Scouting.  I was a Cub Scout and Explorer as a youth, so I was very familiar with the program and the benefits it offers to youth and leaders.

I began as a District Executive in Minneapolis, MN and later worked various roles in the councils in Sioux Falls, SD and Appleton, WI.   My wife, Jennifer, and I, along with our three children are looking forward to our service in Hawkeye Area Council.  Before I interviewed for the Scout Executive position, I drove nearly 250 miles around our Council to towns like Belle Plaine, Centra City, Monticello, Vinton, Washington, Wellman, Williamsburg and many others. I can tell you I kept saying to myself, "This feels like home!"

, I look forward to meeting you and talking about how together we can start Scouting's next 100 years!
