Did you know?

105 Eagles in the Class of 2008 delivered more than 11,000 hours of service to our communities. Congratulations, Hawkeye Area Council Eagle Scout Class of 2008!

Eilerts ProcAaron Eilerts Day of Service is February 21 in Hawkeye Area Council

In rememberance of the tragic June 11, 2008 tornado that hit the Little Sioux Scout Ranch and claimed the life of Boy Scout Aaron Eilerts of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Governor Culver has declared Tuesday, February 24, (Aaron's birthday) as Aaron Eilerts Day of Service across Iowa. Hawkeye Area Council has chosen the preceeding Saturday, February 21 to honor Aaron's memory with three service opportunities in Council.

February 21 Aaron Eilerts Service Day opportunities include:

Kind Care Inc. in Williamsburg is currently having a toilet paper fundraiser drive to raise dollars to pay for their new playground. On February 21, they will be distributing the toilet paper to customers in their parking lot off the delivery truck. They need help from 9 am - 12 noon. Kind Care is a local youth program for school age youth during out of school time. They are located at 501 Highland Street, 20 minutes west of Iowa City off Interstate 80.

The Foundation 2 After Hours Food Pantry could use volunteer help. On February 21, they could use volunteers from 1 - 4pm. The food pantry is located at 1540 2nd Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.

The Catherine McAuley Center is having their annual Mall Walk at Lindale Mall the morning of February 21. They have a few volunteer slots open to help out that day.

To register for any of these volunteer slots in memory of Boy Scout Aaron Eilerts of Eagle Grove, e-mail the Scout Shop or call them at (319) 862-0541 or (877) 429-5272.

Arc of East Central Iowa In Need of Cots

The Arc of East Central Iowa, one of the many significantly flood-impacted non-profits in our area is in the middle of a rebuilding process on the main level of their building in Downtown Cedar Rapids.

As part of this process, some of their client programming will be relocated to their Downtown location. One of their programs, Getaways is in need of 30 cots for occassional client use. In order for Arc clients to be able to use the cots, they must be without springs and be made of material that can be easily cleaned and santized.

If you have a new or gently used cot available from your camping experiences that you wouldn't mind donating to the Arc, please contact Tom Doermann at 365-0487 x1038 or Jennifer Higgins at 365-0487 x1024.
