Storm Preparedness Improvements Underway at Camp

2008 Popcorn Still Available Thanks everyone for your hard work on the 2008 Popcorn campaign! As you receive one more holiday invitation or plan what to bring to snack on to your family gathering, remember that 2008 popcorn is still available for sale through the Scout Shop, 660 32nd Avenue SW in Cedar Rapids. Scout Shop hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Tasty popcorn flavors still available for your holiday enjoyment include:
1. Chocolate Lover's Five - This Terry Redlin "Winter Wonderland" tin is filled with 16 oz. Midnight Lightning (carmel corn and peanuts in dark fudge, 16 oz. White Ruby (popcorn and cranberries in white fudge), 16 oz. English Magic (carmel corn and toffee peanuts in fudge), 12 oz. chocolate covered peanuts and 8 oz. chocolate covered pretzels
2. Mud Puddles - This Terry Redlin "Patiently Waiting" tin includes fudge-coated carmel corn and peanuts
3. White Gold - This Terry Redlin "Our Friends" tin includes popcorn and almonds covered in white fudge
4. White Ruby - This Terry Redlin "Night on the Town" tin includes white fudge covered popcorn and cranberries
All popcorn proceeds support annual Scouting operations for the 7,000 youth Hawkeye Area Council is honored to serve.

Red Cedar District Honors Outstanding Volunteers
On November 13 in Cedar Rapids, outstanding volunteers in the Red Cedar District, Hawkeye Area Council, Boy Scouts of America were honored. Red Cedar serves the College and Cedar Rapids Community School Districts.
District Award of Merit honorees included:
Todd Odeen is the Scoutmaster of Troop 8. Todd is one of those volunteers that is 100% dedicated to providing the best possible programs to the youth we serve. Todd is the first to volunteer when a project comes up and gives his best at everything he does for Scouting. Todd is an Eagle Scout and has one Eagle Scout son and one son that is a Life Scout. Todd is usually found out atCcamp volunteering his time where ever needed. Janice Coleman is an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 766 as well as the Red Cedar Day Camp Chairman. Over the last 2 years Janice has worked to make sure the Red Cedar Day Camps is the best possible for the boys. She also works hard within her own Troop. She goes on camp outs, to summer camp and this past fall ran Troop 766 popcorn sale with good success. Gail Baker is a long time committee member of Troop 33. Gail works with the Troop to ensure that all boys are advancing and getting registered with the Troop. For the last few years Gail has run the Troops popcorn sale for them. Gail worked as the camp clerk and did a great job out at camp working with all the Troops at camp. Gail continues to contribute a lot of her time to Scouting. Mike Schmitz was awarded the Outstanding Commissioner award this year. Since Mike was recruited as a Unit Commissioner he has worked to make sure his units provide the promise of Scouting to all youth involved. He works tirelessly at developing ways to better provide that promise to all youth. In 2009, Mike will take over as the District Commissioner for the Red Cedar District

Venturing In a Nutshell Planned and New Crew Update
The "Venturing in a Nutshell" program is designed to bring new knowledge to Venturers of all skill and knowledge levels, foster fellowship, and enhance Venturing on the unit, district, and council levels. The program is designed for everyone from seasoned Venturers to non-Scouters.
This event will take place Saturday, January 10, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church, 1385 Lyndhurst Drive in Hiawatha. Lunch will be provided. Hawkeye Area Council, Boy Scouts of America warmly welcomes two new Venturing Crews to the Red Cedar District. Crew 78 is chartered to the East Iowa Cadet Squadron, Civil Air Patrol. Crew 1005 is chartered to Foundation 2.
