Eagle logoEagle Strike Force Underway
Preliminary community information is now being gathered for a long term, ongoing Council Advancement Committee project - Eagle Strike Force. This outreach to flood-impacted nonprofits and public entities will be used to develop a list of potential Eagle projects, organizational contacts and potential service projects that will be communicated to units on a regular basis.

The same high Eagle standards will still apply and the Scout will remain responsible for all aspects of the Eagle project. The list is designed as a starting point for the post-flood realities of many non-profits and public entites in need of long-term service from Scouts. To volunteer with the community outreach to develop this list, contact Joe Sadewasser or Dawn Svenson  or at the Council Service Center at 862-0541 or (877) HAWK-BSA.

Scouting for FoodScouting For Food Success
On October 25, 2008 hundreds upon hundreds of Scouts and volunteers joined in another successful year of the Scouting for Food drive across Hawkeye Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. This year's drive came at a time where even more Council area residents are in need of support from local food pantries in the aftermath of widespread flooding in Iowa. Results of food donated by Council communities include:
  1. Anamosa - 1,698 pounds
  2. Cedar Rapids - 26,128 pounds
  3. Marion - 11,250 pounds
  4. Iowa City & Coralville - 13,000 pounds
The food collected will be distributed to local residents in need through the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program (HACAP) in Linn County and the Crisis Center in Johnson County. Thanks to all who made a difference for our neighbors in need through this critical Scouting service project!

Key community supporters of Scouting for Food especially deserving of an extra thank you for their efforts include:
  • Coe College Labda Chi Fraternity
  • Crew 1004
