Installations Gone Wild - Guest Author Lon White
|
Meet Lon White, Chief Technology Officer at Triora Group. Lon won our newsletter article writing contest. He'll be toting around an iPod Touch MP3 Player thanks to the following article!
Just
recently I was installing a Vision instance on a development computer at
home. This meant that I alone was
responsible for the installation of the operating system and various Oracle
products I was interested in. The first
hurdle was getting everything downloaded.
For those who do not know, you can download the various Oracle products
from http://edelivery.oracle.com. There
are some agreements you have to sign regarding the software's use as well as
agreeing not to export the software.
After giving Oracle your name, email address and the name of your
company you are good to go on downloading just about everything Oracle has.So, I
started with downloading Oracle's Unbreakable Linux... [Read More]

Jonathan Lewis' Tuning Seminars
|
Sometimes you can just tell that you've hit the right instructor for the right set of students. So it was with our Jonathan Lewis seminars that we held in September in Salt Lake City.
Jonathan taught two seminars, "Troubleshooting and Tuning for Oracle" and "Writing Optimal SQL". Both were very popular with the students.
"Gave me a much better vision and instruction as to what to look for when things go wrong."- BYU
"I enjoyed this class and learned a lot of good principles to follow."- RxAmerica
"Jonathan is without equal. To have him come to us is a rare opportunity." - LDS Church
If you missed the chance to take a class with Jonathan but would like to take it the next time he comes to town, let us know!

Have You Heard All The Buzz About APEX?
|
Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX), formerly called HTML DB, is a
rapid web application development tool for the Oracle database. Using only
a web browser and limited programming experience, you can develop and
deploy professional applications that are both fast and secure. Oracle Application Express combines the qualities of a personal database,
productivity, ease of use, and flexibility with the qualities of an
enterprise database, security, integrity, scalability, availability and
built for the web. For more information from Oracle, see http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/what_is_apex.html
We don't mean to gloat (much), but we've got Scott Spendolini, President of Sumner Technologies, offering two APEX training classes the week of December 15-19 (just in time for some good skiing). Scott Spendolini is president and founder of Sumner Technologies, a
small consulting firm that specializes in Oracle Application Express
training and services. Spendolini has assisted a number of clients
from various industries with their Application Express development and
training needs. Prior to founding Sumner Technologies, he worked for
Oracle Corporation for almost ten years, the last three of which he was
a senior product manager for Oracle Application Express. He has
presented at a number of conferences, including Oracle OpenWorld,
ODTUG, and IOUG and co-authoring a new book, Pro Oracle Application
Express. The Sumner Technologies, home page can be found at
http://sumnertech.com. Scott is, therefore, an APEX Guru!
If you need to get an early APEX fix, check out the APEXposed! 2008 Conference, which will be held October 29-30 in Chicago.

Your Claim to Fame

Our first newsletter article writing contest worked out so well, we decided to try another. If you'd like to enter, just write an article about Oracle or the Oracle E-Business Suite. Tell us about a technique that you've used that made your life easier at work. Or describe something you've learned from all those books on your bookshelf, and how it applied to your environment. Or send us a functional article. Has your company migrated to E-Business Suite Release 12 yet? Did you encounter any interesting issues that were different from Release 11i?
Submissions should be sent to editor@trutek.com by October 25th. We'll include the winning article in our next newsletter. And the winning author will win a very cool prize, a $100 Gift Certificate from Amazon! |

Let's Make Some Lemonade!Last week we were trying to send a thank you note to 40 people that attended our Jonathan Lewis seminars. Unfortunately, our fingers slipped and we accidentally sent the note - along with a discount coupon - to everyone on our list. Ooops! We're very sorry about the extra mailing. We've decided to make lemonade and honor that coupon, so if you've been thinking about taking a class with us, just enter "Lemonade" in the coupon code section when you sign up on our training website. And if there's a class that you've been waiting for that hasn't made our list, fill in our survey and let us know! We schedule classes based on interest level. And last of all, if you're not up for travel to the land of skiing and snowboarding, we do offer onsite classes and can bring everything to you.
