Remembering....
Sappy. I just get sappy on the 4th.
There's this old-fashioned part of me that sees a spoiled-rotten America...and I wonder if ANY percentage of the ~300-million souls who call themselves Americans EVER stop to consider the incredible sacrifices previous patriots made.
My dad was a Swiss Immigrant. He was naturalized as an American AFTER he was drafted into WWII to go BACK to Europe and rout the Germans. He often told me he heard a few bullets go whizzing by pretty close.
But like the rest of the "Greatest Generation", he just wanted to come back to America and marry his Iowa sweetheart, start a family, and pursue his dream...in his case to be a farmer.
I used to call him every 4th of July to thank him for fighting, living, and returning to start that family (I was the youngest of 3). He passed two years ago at 92, and I cried like a baby when the VFW color guard handed me the carefully-folded flag at his graveside ceremony.
That's why I get sappy....but I will celebrate too!
Thanks for indulging my soft side.

History's first submarine attack took place in New York Harbor in 1776!
Oh, and did I mention I'm a sucker for history, too?
So much interesting stuff...I know it was crammed down your throat in High School, but if you take the time to revisit the history of our country...there's some incredible stories.

...doesn't exist
. ..but if Thomas Jefferson REALLY had a TLM103, and a decent DAW, he would've reminded us in a podcast from his Monticello home in VA, to honor the work he and his peers put into the incredible documents we still revere today as the foundation of our democracy (but I could be totally wrong). As for me...I've been archiving my old documents (newsletters) for viewing on a website which you can find HERE. There aren't that many, but each one is GOLD (not red, white & blue).Hope you enjoyed this greeting on Independence Day, 2009......Dave Courvoisier
