Good Neighbors Get Together For Food & Fellowship
CLC invited some hard working folks to brunch at the Lakeside Cafe in April for food and fellowship. "Neighbor To Neighbor" is the spirit behind the work of the OMI Food Network, and its new counterpart in the Parkmerced University Park area. Thanks to the support of Temple United Methodist Church and the San Francisco Food Bank, neighbors pack boxes of fresh and wholesome food to deliver to seniors and people with disabilities who are unable to stand in the food pantry line. Deloris McGee and Margaret Gray help organize the deliveries and more for the OMI Neighborhood and Karen Holt does the same for the Parkmerced University Park area, with help from St. Stephan's Catholic Church. Neighbors help identify those who could benefit, and make twice monthly deliveries to a total of 78 people in those neighborhoods.
If you would like more information about this effort, or would be interested in organizing something similar in your neighborhood, contact CLC at 821-1003

Reaching Seniors Where Seniors Are
We have been fortunate to have help for the Summit from Heidi Zuhl, a skilled Public Relations consultant who has guided our efforts to get press and media coverage for the past few months. She has helped us reach out to seniors who are active in faith communities, starting with a speaking engagement at Calvary Presbyterian Church entitled "Don't Let the High Tech World Leave You Behind." She also helped introduce the Community Living Campaign to the San Francisco Interfaith Council.
We are grateful for the opportunity to speak at the Interfaith Council's May meeting on Thursday, May 8th at 8:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Methodist Church on Franklin Street. If you are a member of the Council, please join us in this outreach effort. |
Community Living - a Concept Whose Time Has Come
Read about the new Administration for Community Living and some local efforts that started long ago to make "community living" a reality for more of us. While our monthly newsletter will continue to share highlights of past and future events and activities, the new blog providesa a more personal and in-depth look at what resources are available to help us have a good life as we age. Take a minute to subscribe by going to www.sfhealthyaging.org and read our most recent Blog Post about Community Living in San Francisco. At the Aging and Disability Summit, you can meet some other cool folks who have local blogs about politics, universal design, food and other things that support strong and engaged communities where everyone is called to participate. You can also hear more about the new Federal Administration for Community Living from Darrick Lam, an Aging Services Program Specialist at the US Dept. of Health and Human Services. |
