Rebuilding Together
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~rebuilding together logo
Rebuilding Together San Francisco is now accepting applications for our FREE renovation program, Rebuilding Day. Each April, we mobilize teams of volunteers to provide repairs and renovation work on the homes of low-income San Franciscan's as well as community centers, nonprofits and schools. The type of work depends on what the client needs, but may include: interior painting, landscaping, general cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, safety modifications, weather stripping and replacing appliances. All the work is done by volunteers on the last Saturday of each April - mark your calendars, National Rebuilding Day will be Saturday, April 30th this year.
We are currently looking for applications for homeowners in need of repairs as well as nonprofits and community groups and our deadline is October 31st. Please tell your friends and neighbors and keep an eye out for community organizations in need of our work.
If you have any questions, please contact our friendly staff at (415) 905-1611. You can download an application, look at pictures from past projects or find out more information by visiting:
From the Raging Grannies (heard at a recent Social Security
Rally)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~raging grannies
Sometimes, it is just better in song (to the tune of Battle Hymn of the Republic)...

We've reached the age of 65, our golden years are here.
They tell that the age begins a happy new career.
For now our Uncle Sam becomes our permanent cashier.
As we go marching on.
Chorus: Holy Moley, it's our MON-ey (3x), We paid when we were young!
And when each month a check arrives, we're happy it's being sent.
Enough to buy a BIT of food and maybe pay the rent.
And after that some folks are broke and left without a cent.
But they go bravely on.
Chorus: Holy Moley it's our MONey (3x), We paid when we were young
The issue of preserving Social Security will be "on the agenda" for the next Elder Economic Security Forum (see above).
