~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
dancersAs someone that believes change is possible, even required, in these
difficult times,
we invite you to support the Community Living Campaign's First Annual Fun-raiser
A Tea Dance and Garden Party with a Silent Auction
Saturday, May 22 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm
The Community Living Campaign is celebrating two exciting years with our "First Annual FUN-Raiser" - a Tea Dance Party and Silent Auction - great music, dance demos including ballroom, swing and line dancing, tea time refreshments and Silent Auction.  What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than basking in a beautiful garden, eating and dancing with friends  - all while you're shopping an auction for great bargains and supporting seniors and people with disabilities have happier lives in the communities of their choice.
As an event sponsor or Silent Auction donr, your generosity will be acknowledged in our event program,  on our website, in our newsletter, and at events all over the City.  Sponsor at the heartHEART  house HOME  and  Sprout HOPE  levels.   For your convenience, it is possible to download a Sponsorship Form HERE.  You may also provide your sponsorship on-line at Eventbrite (a small service fee is added) - just click the link for On-Line Donations HERE.    You will also be listed in the program if we receive your gift by May 1.  We hope that you can help us make this first event a grand success by becoming a listed sponsor or auction donor. For more information, contact Judy Auda at 415.826.3194.
Community Grows As A Part of Beauty Shop Culture
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
beauty salon sAward-winning photographer, writer and cultural critic Candacy A. Taylor presents Beauty Shop Culture, an exhibition that explores the beauty shop as a community-based institution and addresses issues of gender, race, class and identity. For centuries hair salons have functioned as makeshift communities where people gather to discuss everything from intimate family sagas, food, and pop culture, to finances, politics, philosophy and health.  For the exhibition Beauty Shop Culture, Taylor employs photographic documentation, installation and sculpture to explore the contemporary manifestations of beauty shops as a form of community space, and to highlight traditions and history of hair, hair care products, potions and pomades from various cultures throughout the world beginning in the sixteenth century.

A Long Time Trailblazer and Loving Campanion Passes On

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the dog henry miller
Henry Miller, long time companion and service dog for Ana Aureolas, pass away after providing more than a decade of service and affection.  Ana and Henry were a team everywhere, including the days when they were part of a Peer Advocate Training Program for seniors and persons with disabilities several years ago.  They helped raise our awareness of the importance of pets, service and companion animals and provided much of the information to develop a special hand-out about services and support for seniors and persons with disabilities and their animal companions, which became Planning for Elders' Senior Survival School Sheet #20.  When Ana required surgery, Henry accompanied her to the hospital.  Learn more about how Ana and Henry helped lead the way for others seeking accommodations when facing hospitalization at the UCSF Website.  Henry will be missed.  A memorial service is pending.
