A note from the director: Whirlwinds
What a whirlwind since accepting the position of MIssion Director at Hope. But it's not a Dorothy in the "Wizard of Oz" kind of whirlwind. It's a God-driven, Spirit-led kind of whirlwind. God is moving locally and globally in amazing ways - through our current mission partners and through mission partners that God is placing in our path.
From Africa to Jamaica to New Mexico to the inner city of Des Moines, God is revealing himself to us in new and exciting ways. God has big things in store for us as we progress to becoming a 50/50 church. As a result of God's work through the Building Hope 4 the World campaign, we are on schedule for half of all offerings to be designated for Missions by late 2014! Praise God for the work He has planned! We will continue to prayerfully support our current global mission partners, plan short-term mission trips and look at how we can support new mission partners that God brings to us.We also know how important it is to support the work of so many local organizations through events like the Souper Bowl Food Drive, which is a great way for families and small groups to serve together. No volunteer is too young or too old to bring or sort cans of green beans!
So, I encourage you to stay tuned to Hope's missions through this e-newsletter, trip Facebook pages (see the links below) and the Hope website for new and exciting opportunities to live out Hope's mission and the Great Commandment. Blessings,
Missions Director |
Souper Bowl Food Drive V
Donation shortages to food pantries have been in the news recently. Winter months can make shortages even more evident. For the fifth year in a row, Hope is stepping in to help with the Souper Bowl Food Drive!
Head to your local grocery store, grab a bag (or two or three) of non-perishable food items and bring them to church on "Souper Bowl" weekend - Feb. 4 & 5.
Financial donations will also be accepted the weekend of Feb. 4 & 5 via check or online through My HOPELink (both require writing "Souper Bowl Food Drive" in the memo field).
All food will be distributed to local food pantries beginning Feb. 6. Last year, Hope was able to collect 60 tons of food and stock the shelves at 37 pantries. For all the details on donations and volunteering, click here.
