Reflections on a Missions Year
"Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end." Ecclesiastes 3:11 It is always remarkable to look back on a year and see where we have been as a people of God. If only we could see more clearly what lies ahead, right? The humbling part of all the places we have visited and conversations we have had with people around the world is that God moves in both small and large ways. We may not always know the impact of a small donation on our part, like a can of food donated in the baskets at the front doors of our church, but you can believe that at some point the recipient of this food will ask the question, "Where did this item come from?" Some of us are a little more skeptical by nature, at least I can be. That brings with it a challenge. I know over the years I have seen God move in significant ways, and there have been times where I wonder if God is going to move in a more significant way with our mission partners. Sometimes the results are radical and sometimes they are subtle. As we move together as a church this next year, I am excited to see how God is going to deepen our work and partnerships both locally and globally. In some of this work we will see great advancement, but in some cases we are called to be more patient - to plant and water and then trust God. I hope you will join me in prayer this New Year for the missions ministry at Hope and for our ministry partners. We are called to an incredible task of sharing God's love and building disciples to the ends of the earth. Praise God for what we have been able to accomplish as a church this year. May God bless you and your family this New Year! Pastor Pat Quaid |
The Souper Bowl food drive is coming!

The weekend of Feb. 4-5, you will want to rumble to your local grocery store and pick up a bag, or bags, of food for the local food pantries. A suggested list will be available online soon. Watch your bulletin for more information. If you are interested in making the 2012 Souper Bowl food drive a big success, email Missions. Volunteers will be needed to organize, sort and deliver the donations. |

Thank you for another amazing year of generosity!
After adopting over 400 families in the Adopt-a-Family program from Bidwell Riverside, Hope continued to give more, donating over 1,000 new, unwrapped toys to Toys for Tots, providing meals for the homeless through Hope Ministries' Scan Away Hunger program, and giving more than 500 items that brightened the holidays for many seniors in need around our community. Thank you!

Families Needed to Host Visiting Orphans

Some local families have started a Kidsave community in Des Moines. This program brings in older orphans from Columbia, South America to stay with host families for 5 weeks during the summer and advocates to find them adoptive families during their visit. It is a very successful program as over 90% of the children are adopted. They are currently in need of several families to host orphans next summer. There will be an informational meeting on Sunday, Jan. 22, at 1:00 pm in Room 212. To find out more visit www.kidsave.org.
