Welcome to the Monthly Missions E-newsletter!

Some of you may be a part of the God Squad e-mail distribution list, and we wanted to let you know about changes to future God Squad requests. The Summer of Love is about fulfilling Hope's mission to reach out to the world around us and share the everlasting love of Jesus Christ.

There are many mission partners and organizations locally that offer ample opportunities to serve. As Pastor Mike detailed in a blog posting, the idea is to send you, Hopesters, small groups, families and individuals into the local area and world to make a real impact - to be the church. This means serving your friends in need of support, your neighbors who need the lawn mowed or their dog fed during vacation, or the coworker having a bad day who needs an encouraging email. This can also be giving your time at events like races, walks, hospitals, state parks, fairs and more (even your church home!).

The listings online will provide opportunities for you to get involved in our community. Some of the organizations represented in this list may not be mission "partners" with Lutheran Church of Hope but they are organizations we wish to support with volunteers.

We'd love to hear from you on what you are doing in terms of where you are serving and trying to capture the number of hours or people involved. If you take pictures, send them, please. The idea is to share how the Spirit is moving. You can leave a comment on blog posting here, use our follow-up form or post something to Facebook. If you are already serving in some way, we hope you'll share your experience with us!

Mission Custer State Park featured this month

There are photographs from Hope's mission trips on the east wall of the Atrium. The display will feature a new mission trip each month, and this month will be Mission Custer State Park. The first-ever Custer team just returned and had an incredible week of service within the park, bonding as a team and building memories as families.

Daily Reflection Calendar
This year focuses on missions so Hope will have a monthly focus on local and worldly issues - poverty, orphans, AIDS awareness, clean water, and more. To go along with the monthly focus, there will be a daily reflection calendar at www.hopewdm.org/missions with suggestions for how you can lift up what God is doing in the world and in Des Moines. Check out the new July calendar!
