Another Great OKTOBERFEST
| |

What a great event! As usual, the food and beverages were delicious and the REAL German bratwursts and sauerkraut were a huge success, so much so, that we ran out. The music provided by the Gypsy Chix Band was entertaining. The silent auction was a fun and an exciting place to visit and shop. The prize palace, also known as Panther House, was a happening place. Even the die-hard football fans could watch the game and enjoy the great food and drinks.
Congratulations to our winners:
Ruth Helsel won the 50/50 raffle and will receive a check in the amount of $3130; Tony Brekke won the I-pod Nano; Vince Penza won a Halloween Basket.
Thank you all for participating and for your generous contributions. We raised about $20,000. Many thanks to Julie Sabbadini, Brenda Henderson, and Mary Terjeson and to the energetic carnival committee who put this fantastic event together. Also, many, many thanks to Dick Plesha, our chief BBQer who after 15 (or more) years of service will retire from this job. We'll miss you, but thank you for providing such excellent food all these years!

THE ROMAN MISSAL
| Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent (November 27, 2011) Catholics in America and throughout the English-speaking world will beginning using a new Missal at Mass. The Missal is the official book of prayers that guides the presider and the assembly in our communal worship. You will notice several changes in the responses that you make at Mass. For instance, when the greeting, "The Lord be with you" is extended to us, we will respond "And with your spirit." Before entering the communion procession we have said, "Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed." The new translation provides the response, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed."
What's new, what's different and how does it affect us?
To learn answers to these questions join us for a workshop in the parish hall:
either on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 10 ; 12:15 followed by lunch
or Thursday, Nov. 10, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Please RSVP here!

Teen News
|
St. Perpetua 's 50 candidates for Confirmation have begun their preparation. In Youth Group we have welcomed over twenty teens to our weekly gatherings. Our focus so far had been on community building and how this important aspect defines us as Catholics. As we move towards Thanksgiving, teens will focus on the experience and importance of gratitude. In the meantime, several teens assisted with clean up at the parish carnival and next week head off to the Contra Costa Food Bank for our first community service trip. For more information about our teen programs please visit our website or e-mail Gary.
