THE ROMAN MISSAL
| Beginning with the First Sunday of Advent (November 27, 2011) Catholics in America and throughout the English-speaking world will beginning using a new Missal at Mass. The Missal is the official book of prayers that guides the presider and the assembly in our communal worship. You will notice several changes in the responses that you make at Mass. For instance, when the greeting, "The Lord be with you" is extended to us, we will respond "And with your spirit." Before entering the communion procession we have said, "Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed." The new translation provides the response, "Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed."
The Roman Missal, Third Edition has been prepared and translated from Latin. It offers a more literal translation of the official Latin text, more clearly translates some Scripture passages used in prayers in the liturgy, is more poetic in places, uses more formal language and includes some translations that require explanation so that they can be prayed well. To find out more about these forthcoming changes mandated by the Pope and the Vatican, go to the Bishops' website. In the next few weeks leading up to Advent you will receive information and material regarding these forthcoming changes.
