OKTOBERFEST 2010
| |
A BIG Thank You To Everyone Who Made Oktoberfest Such a Success!
What a great day it was, and fun was had by all. Everywhere you looked there were smiling faces, games being played and people enjoying relaxing conversations while enjoying excellent food and drink. The KGB (Kenny Goodwin Band) and the teen jazz band rocked our socks off.
To the Carnival Committee and all the volunteers who worked in the booths and helped with Saturday and Sunday set-up, a HUGE thank you, for we could not have done it without you. We raised over $17,000!
Please consider joining the Oktoberfest committee; we're always looking for new ideas and more help. For feedback or to join please contact Christoph.

Understanding Islam: Fifty Questions |
Monday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m. RRC You may recall that after the terrorist attacks of 9-11 Dr. Amer Araim visited St. Perpetua and many other religious, academic and social institutions in our area. His goal was and still is to build bridges between faith groups and to promote better understanding and mutual respect. Together with his wife he founded the Islamic Community Outreach of California (www.islamicoutreach.org) One of the projects of the ICOC is to publish books and other printed materials. The book "Understanding Islam: Fifty Questions" is one of these projects. In addition to explaining briefly the basic principles of Islam, the book presents all the pertinent questions about Islam. Dr. Araim will answer all the questions on your mind and have a book signing. Dr. Araim is an American of Iraqi origin who came to this country as a diplomat in Washington D.C., and a delegate to the United Nations in New York. After retirement from the United Nations, he began new careers as academic and Muslim imam. He is currently the imam at Dar-Ul-Islam mosque in Concord and teaching classes at DVC. |

Teen News
| This year's Confirmation Group has answered the call to service twice during the month of October. In Confirmation candidates answer the calling to serve as a living example of Jesus' teachings - to serve one another with mellowness of heart. God calls us to serve and we say, "Here I am, Lord!" Candidates helped with clean up at the parish carnival and travelled to the Contra Costa Food Bank on October 27 (candidates pictured below) to help sort food, in this case package celery for local food banks to be distributed the next day. All youth of the parish have the chance to serve. Next up, another Food Bank trip on November 16 and a trip to St. Anthony's dining room on Saturday, November 13. Questions, check out the parish website or drop Gary an e-mail.
