Life's Journey: Anger to Forgiveness

MARK YOUR CALENDAR

Nationally renowned author and preacher Fr. Tom Allender will give a very unique parish mission called "Life's Journey: Anger to Forgiveness"  May 24 - 26. Fr. Tom will speak twice a day on topics of spirituality for the imperfect, helping us recognize that God loves us unconditionally. (Perfect people need not attend!) Fr. Tom has been giving his witty, energetic missions for nearly 20 years, using a style grounded in genuine faith and reality of our everyday lives.

Sessions will be held Monday - Wednesday after morning Mass and again at 7:30 p.m., details

First Eucharist 2010
FE
Almost one hundred children enrolled in the parish school and the faith formation program will be celebrating the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time at St. Perpetua.  Thanks to parishioner Stacey Louis for creating the beautiful banner which hangs in the church and displays the smiling faces of the First Communion students.  First Eucharist Masses will be celebrated during the first two weekends of May at the 5:00, 9:30 & 11:30 Masses.

Rosaries by Luis Rivilla

I started making rosaries about a year ago for the missions in the Philippines and for friends and family as a hobby. As part of my continuing hobby/ministry I would like to offer  rosaries for sale at a minimal price to recover the cost of the materials and continue to sustain this ministry. If anyone is interested, I will have a small table at the church hall on Sunday April 25 after the 9:30 and 11:30 Masses.

Teen News
Teens in the parish continue to volunteer in St. Perpetua sponsored community service opportunities.  On Saturday April 17 twelve teens and the youth minister traveled to San Francisco to serve meals at Saint Anthony's dining room.  The teens prepared trays for serving, served meals, and cleaned tables for over 2000 guests that day.  Another group of teens heads out Saturday May 1.  For this school year, Saint Perpetua teens have offered over 250 community service volunteer hours through our programs.

On Saturday May 22, Bishop Salvatore Cordilione will confirm fifty-one of our teens at Christ the Light Cathedral. The teens have been preparing since September for this special day. Please keep them in your prayers as they affirm their faith, are sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit, and take this next step forward in their life.

St. Perpetua School News

"Oh the Things You Can Think!"  You are invited to attend the St. Perpetua School spring musical, Seussical, on Thursday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Church.  Over 40 of the school children are performing and this evening promises to inspire your imagination and creativity in a way that only Dr. Seuss can.

The Diocese of Oakland is embarking on a strategic planning process to ensure that our Catholic schools are vital and viable for generations to come. Help re-imagine the future of our schools! All school families, faculty and staff are invited to share their perspectives and ideas about Catholic schools in an anonymous Community On-Line Survey from April 1 through April 30. Your participation will help create a stronger and more financially viable Catholic school system.

Easter Egg Hunt
Easter BunnyEaster Sunday Masses were overflowing with parishioners and, in spite of the rainy weather, the Knights of Columbus annual Easter Egg Hunt was not abandoned because of soggy grass and cold temperatures but was reorganized into a festive indoor event in the Religious Resource Center and the Cafe Perpetua area. Over 200 bags of candy were handed out to the children, coffee and donuts were served to all, and the incredible Easter Bunny was there for photos with children of all ages.

The Knights gave away about 100 instant photos with the Easter Bunny, in the one-hour program that followed the 9:30 a.m. Mass.

Shown here after the event are the Easter Bunny and his photographer, Dave Tedesco. Thanks to Brian Mosel for arranging for the appearance of the Easter Bunny.

Liturgical Ministers Needed
THANK YOU to all who responded to our plea so far, but we still need Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and altar servers. Please help us out to avoid burn out and over scheduling for our current ministers.

Altar Servers
Both adults and youth in fourth grade and older, (Father/son or Mother/daughter teams) help with preparations before Mass, assist the presider during the service, and lead the procession with the gifts. To see what a server does watch the power point presentation on our web site. To become a server, click here.

Eucharistic Ministers
Share the bread and cup with the assembly at Eucharist. To become a Eucharistic Minister, click here.

Lectors
Proclaim the Word of God in our worship. They prepare to minister by prayer, practice and reflection on Scripture. To become a Lector, click here.
