Youth Serves the Community
In July, a team of teens from St. Perpetua joined about 90 others from around the country in the Young Neighbors In Action youth service program. Our teens worked at two sites: St. Elizabeth's School on Somerset Street in San Francisco, and at St. Paul of Shipwreck in San Francisco's Bayview Hunter's Point area. The days started with communal prayer (and exercise), breakfast, teens going out on their mission, having lunch, more mission service work, and then a return to the base site for relaxation, dinner, prayer, and some community building. At St. Elizabeth's our teens performed maintenance and classroom work; at St. Paul's we labored with maintenance and painting. The work was hard, and rewarding to the teens as it was obvious we were filling a need in those two communities. Here we are at St. Elizabeth's in our official T-shirts. Pictured from left to right: Joelle Stegner, Alyssa Jones, Shannon Schumacher, Vincent Henessy, Danny Giroux, Karen Giroux, and Gary Guerrero, our Youth Minister.

News from our Parish School
St. Perpetua School kicked off the 2009-2010 school year with their second annual Back to School Mass and BBQ on Sunday August 23. Families gathered under the Pavilion to celebrate the Eucharist together and then shared a delicious potluck as old friendships were renewed and new acquaintances were made. For more pictures and info please see the school website.
The school community benefits from a dedicated staff, energetic students and supportive parents. Together we will work to make this a fabulous school year! The Mission Effectiveness Committee is continuing to support St. Martin de Porres, our sister school in Oakland, by collecting school supplies. The deadline for donations is this Friday, September 4th in the school office.

It is What We Are Called To Do!
At the end of His earthy ministry, Jesus said, "Go, therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." (Mt. 28:19-20) By teaching the next generation about the Good News, you are fulfilling your part of the Great Commissioning. It may be the most important thing you will ever do. Contact Cathy or Michelle at the parish office to volunteer your time and talent and share the Good News with children in the Faith Formation program.
