Internet Safety
Thursday, May 21, 7:00 p.m. With the internet and electronic instant communication being such a large part of all our lives, young and old, greater discrimination is needed since not everything that gets communicated on the Internet is helpful or safe. The parish is sponsoring a very special presentation entitled "Parenting with a Purpose: A Guide to Internet Safety." The presentation will be given by an expert in the field of internet safety, Supervisory Special Agent, Jack Bennett of the FBI. It will be held in the church on Thursday, May 21, at 7:00 pm. If you are a parent of school-aged children, you will not want to miss this informative discussion on how to keep your kids safe on the Internet. Admission is free and childcare will be provided.

Parish Picnic
Our Parish Picnic is coming up on Sunday May 31 at 12:30 at St. Perpetua's Pavilion on the upper level of our campus. You'll find details about what to bring by clicking here. In the past we've gone off-site for our picnic. Now, that's not necessary since we have a beautiful field and Pavilion for the event right here on our own property. Food, fun, games and fellowship - we hope you can attend. Bring a friend or neighbor; it's a great way to evangelize and welcome someone into the Church. Please be sure to RSVP by May 25 so that we know how many people will be in your party. This way our BBQ chef Dick Plesha can prepare accordingly! Also, we could use your help with set-up, hosting and clean-up. Please indicate in your RSVP if you're willing to help.

Confirmation at the new Cathedral
Last Saturday, 31 of our 36 Confirmandi were confirmed at the Cathedral of Christ the Light with Bishop Salvatore Cordileone presiding. St. Perpetua joined Santa Maria (Orinda), St. Francis (Concord), and St. John (San Lorenzo) to fill the Cathedral for the Bishop's first confirmation ceremony in the diocese. St. Perpetua's Father John concelebrated, and Deacon Luis Rivilla assisted. St. Perpetua also had Robert Galindo as an altar server. Candidates gathered an hour before the liturgy where the picture here was taken in the Cathedral Conference room. The momentous day came after a nine-month preparation period for the candidates; Candidates and parents alike have remarked how special it was to have the Confirmation at the new Cathedral. Our remaining five candidates will be confirmed on Sunday May 31 at the Cathedral as well.

Last week 6th Grade students enjoyed a week of learning in the Santa Cruz mountains, 4th Graders spent the night at Borgess Ranch and the 5th graders applied their knowledge of early America during their Colonial Day! A few spaces are available for the 2009-2010 school year. If you or someone you know is interested, please call the school at 925 284-1640. Our principal, Karen Goodshaw, will be happy to share information about the benefits of Catholic education.
