OPERATION RICE BOWL

is Catholic Relief Services' Lenten program. Just as we celebrate the Eucharist on Sundays, we can use Operation Rice Bowl as a way to "break bread" together with family and loved ones. We engage in the traditional practices of Lent and pray as a community, fast through making sacrifices, learn about the joys and challenges in the lives of our brothers and sisters all around the world, and give concrete assistance to those most in need. Decide how and when to share a simple meal at home each week. Put the money you saved from the meal and from other sacrifices in the Rice Bowl throughout Lent. At the end of Lent convert the money collected into a check made out to "St.Perpetua" (with Rice Bowl in the memo section) and bring it to the church by Easter. It will be sent to Catholic Relief Services.
Soup & St. Paul
soup

On three Wednesdays of Lent (3/4, 3/11 & 3/18) you are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread in the parish hall. The meals will be prepared by various parish organizations. Following the meal there will be an adult education series on St. Paul. Come for the entire evening or part of it.

Supper: 6:15 - 7:00 p.m.

Adult Faith Formation on St. Paul: 7:00 - 8:15 p.m.
(Fr. Tom Bonacci will lead the evening on March 18)

In loving memory of
Dick Abbott & Thelma Fox
Family and friends of Dick Abbott who died on February 1 gathered to celebrate his funeral Mass last Friday. Dick was a longtime member of St. Perpetua's whose life could be characterized by the words faithfulness, family, fun and friendship. From family trips to Tahoe to rounds of golf with friends, Dick lived an active life with his wife and children. When his body was weak in the last few years and Dick spent a lot of time in a wheelchair, it didn't prevent him from being a part of our worshiping community. He kept faith through it all. St. Teresa of Avila said: When we accept what happens to us and make the best of it, we are praising God." Dick's "Yes" to life, with all its joys and all of its challenges and struggles was a prayer of transformation and liberation, as well as a witness to all of us. May he dwell now with the saints of God.

Thelma Fox, who died on February 11 at 91, was a long time St.  Perpetuan. She was happily married to her husband Jack for 70 years. She especially enjoyed the frequent visits of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Thelma and Jack were faithful attendees at the 8 AM Mass on Sundays. Thelma thoroughly enjoyed the respite of going out to Sunday breakfast with Jack and friends.  She was always welcoming and interested in how you were doing. If prompted, she would tell stories about her varied life experiences as a teacher, homemaker and her travels with Jack.  She was a grand lady who will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by her family and many friends.

Sincerely,
The Staff of
St. Perpetua Catholic Church
