PASTOR'S MESSAGE
candlelightOne of my favorite Christmas CD's (Home For Christmas) features the opera singer Anne Sophie von Otter. She sings a song in her native Swedish; the lyrics in English sing: I have heard those words again in a hymn of grace and glory, saying: Nothing is in vain! I can sing -- and I believe it; let the message reach the sky. Oh silent night, let your promise never die. Our Christmas celebrations at St. Perpetua were beautiful thanks to the work of our Liturgy Committee, Parish Staff, our Music Ministry, our liturgical ministers and all of you who participated in the Christmas Masses. Our common faith was renewed in "hymns of grace and glory" and the promise of God's unending love, made real in the birth of Jesus, was joyfully proclaimed once again. May that promise keep echoing throughout the coming year not only for you and for our parish community but for the world around us and far from us. Let's make the Christmas Spirit more than a season. Let's make it a way of life!
Blessings for 2009,
Father John Kasper, OSFS
70th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
LombardoOn December 10th, Sarah and Vince Lombardo celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They were blessed by Father John on December 28. It seems appropriate that this blessing was bestowed on the Feast of the Holy Family because both Sarah and Vince attribute their happy life together to an awareness of and dedication to the importance of family. This respect for family, they say, is passed on from generation to generation. We are proud to have them as part of our parish family for so many years. Congratulations!
RENEW A COMMITMENT TO PRAYER
"The trustworthy person shines like a lamp in the darkness."
(Psalm 116)
Come join us for reflection and prayer with the psalms led by Sr. Patricia Bruno, O.P., a Dominican Sister of San Rafael.  It's a wonderful way to begin the New Year. Often we can't find the words we want to pray for our newly elected government officials or those who are suffering in our families and throughout the world, and for ourselves as we seek Wisdom to guide and care for those we love. Come study and pray the prayers of Jesus, so that we can, along with our Hebrew ancestors, draw courage and hope for our daily lives. More info is available on our web site.

Dates: Thursdays, Jan. 22 & 29
Time:  7:00 p.m. Religious Resource Center
Even if you can't attend both of the evenings plan to attend one.

ADVENT BY CANDLELIGHT

The fourth annual Advent by Candlelight was held on Dec. 11th.  The attendees enjoyed an evening of fellowship highlighted by delicious desserts, beautifully decorated tables, Christmas music, and a guest speaker.  Donations totaling $645 were collected for Monument Crisis Center. Thanks to all who helped in creating this special event.

In Loving Memory
Tom
Our community was saddened to receive word on Christmas Eve of the death of Tom Malanca. Tom was an active member of St. Perpetua's for nearly forty years. He sang in the parish choir for most of those years and shared in every aspect of our parish life. Our sympathy is extended to his wife Aggie, his sons John and Rob and Tom's extended family, as well as his many friends in our community. May Tom now join in the heavenly choir offering praise to the God whom he served throughout his life.
