THE GOLD STANDARD  - Part 2

As I said last month, our goal for the coming year is for Lifestyle Fitness members to achieve their goals. Plain and simple. We are going to help you learn and live the Gold Standard.

The first step is to SHOW UP! You can't make progress if you don't show up, and we certainly can't help you if we don't see you. Every successful person out there succeeded because they showed up.

As a caveat: SHOW UP five days a week! That's right. If you want to make serious changes, you have to show up every weekday (we'll discuss the weekends later). Successful people work at being a success-it doesn't just fall into their laps. I'll bet you've worked very hard at something that doesn't matter half as much as your health and quality of life. If you have (and you know you have), then I know you have the ability to commit and the dedication to see it through.

You have to decide that this is important enough for you to do every day. We've all done things that we didn't particularly care for. When I was in high school working to save money for college; I got a job keeping yards for a builder's spec homes. Not a bad job except they waited to hire me until the grass (rather weeds) was almost up to my shoulders. What a great job! Did I mention that was in Central Texas, home of some pretty big rattlesnakes?

Yes, this journey can be and will be unpleasant at times. There will be times when you want to give up and go home. You certainly can do that; but if you do, you have forever lost your right to complain. No more complaints how your back hurts or your knees are killing you or how sick you get. Remember, we are in control of almost 80% of what happens to us. If you've given up your control, you've also given up your right to complain. Just get on the bus, sit down, shut up and go where the driver takes you.

If you don't want to be on that bus, get off! It's that simple. Stand up and walk off. Or for what we are talking about, walk into the club. You are now on your way to resuming some control in your physical world. All it takes for you now is to stand up and walk in here every day. Now that you are in the club, we can help you.   click here to learn more.

HIDDEN HOLIDAY CALORIES
Tis the season to nibble. We are all guilty: the plate of cookies at the office, the birthday cake at the gym, a bowl of mints. While there is nothing wrong with an occasional treat, the danger in nibbling is that we lose track of how much we have actually consumed. Did we just add another 500 calories to our daily count without even really noticing?

Here are some examples of snacks that could sabotage your healthy eating plan:

Calories

Starbucks Iced Gingerbread Man
400
Sprinkles Cupcake490
Candy Cane

Egg Nog (8 ozl)

SOFTWARE UPDATE

We want to remind you that we are in the midst of upgrading our account management software. We will keep you advised as to when the installation will be complete, and will give you the information to manage your account online.

MEMBER PROFILE - Roger and Becky Bourland

A friend who is a member recommended that we consider Lifestyle Fitness. We came in for a tour and Ken and Scott made us feel very welcome and some of the members offered their opinions and said they looked forward to seeing us in the near future. When we compared Lifestyle with the other facility we were considering, we quickly gravitated towards the less congested environment that Lifestyle offered.

Goals: We share similar health and fitness goals of maintaining our health as we age which in turn will allow us to continue to enjoy our activities outside of the work place and into retirement.

Approach: To achieve and maintain our health and fitness goals we spend a number of hours each week using a combination of training equipment and classes. Since we are both still working our schedules regulate us to evening workouts.

We start out the week on Monday focused on strength training with Scott as our trainer. We are back in on Wednesday for the evening Spin class getting an extensive cardio workout. Becky returns on Thursday for another strength workout using one of the Grab and Go's. On Fridays Roger does his second strength training of the week also using the Grab and Go's while Becky spends time on the Arc and/or Treadmill getting a bit more cardio work.

The hardest thing to do is getting up on Saturday for the early Spin class. We would much rather sleep in on Saturdays but we are both glad we didn't after the class is over. Becky then stays for the Body Sculpting class while Roger cleans up and goes to get a fresh Starbucks coffee.

Results: We have noticed an improvement in our strength and have developed the habit of working out. In late September Roger underwent a knee scope procedure, but because of the strength he had built up prior to his procedure, Scott calls it pre-hab, his recovery has been quicker than expected.

Fun facts: We both enjoy the Colorado Rockies and try to spend as much time there as possible. We explore and enjoy the mountains with hikes that are several miles long and include considerable elevation change. Our time spent in the gym makes these outings a bit more comfortable. In the winter we return to the Rockies for the skiing. Becky goes Cross Country Skiing while Roger still enjoys the thrills of Downhill Skiing and together we try and get in a Snow Shoe hike.
