Improving You!

There are two overriding tenets that are paramount to health and fitness: Move More and Eat Less. These foundational concepts, grounded in science and time-tested, are the two main ingredients to any successful fitness program.

There is a caveat, however, that should accompany these foundational pillars: Every Day. Moving more and eating less are extremely important, but if not done every day they eventually become as effective as using a squirt gun to put out a fire... it just isn’t enough. So here’s a 5-step process to make this work for you.

  1. Make an appointment with yourself every day to move. It doesn’t have to be long or drawn out, just some time each day that you will devote to moving yourself.
  2. Make a list of the foods you commonly eat. Spend 5-15 minutes per day learning about two of those food items. Note serving size, calories, fat, protein, sugar and sodium levels in each item. Start a journal.
  3. Be consistent. Keep your appointments and monitor your food intake.
  4. Move a little more than you did last time. Look for continual improvement.
  5. If you have to miss an appointment, let it go and make the next one. It’s not the end of the world.

These are foundational steps to help you build a routine you can stay with. Look for more information in future newsletters and in the club to increase your knowledge and expand your options. Once you find yourself moving in a defined direction, you can’t help but become motivated to keep reaching higher and farther than you thought possible.
