New Year's Resolutions

Did you resolve to come to the gym every day? Did you resolve to eat only healthy foods? Did you resolve to really, no kidding this time, take your health seriously?

How is that working out for you?

Sure, you might have kept your resolutions for a couple days or a few weeks; but most of us never actually follow through with our resolutions long term.

Why?  Maybe because it's so easy to say the words (especially after a few glasses of champagne) but so difficult to change your behavior.

Make your fitness plan a dynamic part of your lifestyle by actively living it each day:
  • Set goals for yourself, both long term and short term.
  • Take your eating and activity decisions one at a time.
  • Make healthy choices in the foods you eat at each meal and the activity you pursue each day.
Taking small steps will help you stay with your plan and then it won't become just another "resolution" to joke about breaking next New Year's Eve.

Reinvent Your Cardio Workout

Why is a cardio workout so important? Take a look at this list of benefits:
  • Weight loss
  • Stronger heart and lungs
  • Increased bone density
  • Reduced stress
  • Reduced risk of heart disease and some types of cancer
  • Temporary relief from depression and anxiety
  • More confidence about how you feel and how you look
  • Better sleep
  • More energy
  • Setting a good example for your kids to stay active as they get older
The challenge to maintaining a regular cardio regimen is to keep it fun and interesting. How?
Set mini goals
"I'm going to walk a mile in 14 minutes."
"I will climb 1,000 feet on the treadmill."
Change your workout
Routine can be dull and can lose effectiveness as your body gets used to it.
Try riding the bike instead of your normal treadmill routine.
Mix it up with your combination of arc, jumping rope and bike.
Pick up one of our Grab 'n Go workouts.
Try something new
Take a class... Zumba starts on Feb. 3, or check the schedule.

You did a lot of cardio work as a child, but you called it playing. Remember?  hmmmmm...

Smart Food Choices

Don't misunderstand us, we are NOT condoning a Whopper Jr. as a healthy meal, but we are real people and fast food is a part of life. So, it is important to make the right choice.

Your choice was a Burger King Whopper Jr. (no mayo) or a BK Big Fish sandwich. Many might choose the fish sandwich thinking it was the healthier choice. What a surprise!

Did you make the right choice?
