The Rev. Canon Titus Presler, Th.D., will speak on "Christian Mission and the Encounter with Islam: A View from Peshawar in Pakistan Today."

Dr. Presler has recently become Principal of Edwardes College, an undergraduate and graduate institution of the Diocese of Peshawar, near Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. The student body includes 1,800 Muslims and 200 Christians, and 95 percent of the faculty are Muslim.

Register for Rockin' Kanuga!

 

The annual Cathedral retreat to Kanuga conference center in Hendersonville, NC is set for Friday, May 27 to Sunday, May 29. Our speaker this year is our own fabulous Dean Candler. 20s30s Play Ball!
 
  
The Cathedral 20s30s is forming a St. Philip's co-ed recreational softball team to compete in the North Atlanta Church League. Every interested person from the Cathedral community, 18 years of age or older, is welcome and encouraged to join the team. Games are typically played on Wednesday and Thursday evenings; the season begins May 23 and lasts until August. The fee is $75. For more information on how to join, contact team captain Jessica Steck, 678-361-3387.  
Music Notes

For our final recital on Sunday, May 22 at 3:15 p.m. the Cathedral will host organist Robert Parris, Organist/Choirmaster at Christ Church in Macon and University Organist at Mercer University.

Following the 3:15 p.m. organ recital, the Cathedral Choir will be joined by all the Cathedral choristers (from 3rd grade through high school) in singing this season's final Sunday 4 p.m. service, a Choral Eucharist featuring Zoltan Kodály's Missa Brevis

Five Star lunches next week


Enjoy lunch Monday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Child Hall.  

 

The menu for the week of May 22: 

 

Monday: Soup and Sandwiches

Tuesday: Three Cheese Lasagna

Wednesday: Ruebens and Tater Tots

Thursday: Five Star Salad

 

In June Five Star Culinary Group will begin a summer schedule of serving lunches Tuesdays through Thursdays. Wednesday night suppers will resume in late August.

 

Help update the parish directory

The Cathedral of St. Philip will print a basic parish directory without individual photos--only names, addresses, and phone numbers--to be handed out at Homecoming in August. On Sundays in May, we will have binders available in the Atrium for you to review your listing and make corrections. 

 

If you have questions or are unable to come to the Cathedral in May, please contact Dan Murphy, Program Coordinator for Stewardship and Membership, 404-365-1079. Thank you for your help!

 

Baritone to entertain Prime Timers

 

Elder Ministry owl logoNoted baritone, Lawson Anderson, will entertain Prime Timers and guests at the luncheon meeting on Friday, May 20 in the Gould Room. Lawson sings with the Atlanta Opera Company and the Northside United Methodist Church choir. He serves as a Director of the Atlanta Opera Guild Board. Lunch, at a charge of $6.00, is served at 12:30 p.m., followed by the program. Reservations should be made with Jeannie Mahood, 404-365-1034.

Stewardship
We did it!

1,075 households have pledged more than $3,300,000 for the 2011 Stewardship Campaign. We have raised the pledges we need to meet the budgeted expenses for the year! Congratulations and thanks for making this happen.  Read more.
