Final Leg & Summer Games Updates Summer Games Balloons 300px

Summer Games are just a few weeks away. Don't miss the single best night to be a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run!  On June 24 at approximately 8:10 p.m. at the U of M, Torch Runners will bring the "Flame of Hope" into the Summer Games Celebration Ceremonies. Hundreds of athletes, volunteers, coaches and fans will be cheering you on as you run through the crowd to officially light the Summer Games Caldron.  Following the ceremony, Torch Run participants and their families are invited to Sally's Saloon and Eatery on Campus for food and drinks to celebrate a successful year!

In addition to the run into Celebration Ceremonies, Summer Games (June 23-25 at University of Minnesota)  will have many opportunities for Law Enforcement to get involved, including volunteer slots at the awards station, and the LETR Plaza located in Olympic Town. Check out all the ways to get involved by visiting the Torch Run events page and downloading the flyers!

Solar Plunge - Why Should Winter Get All the Fun?
The Polar Bear Plunge has become a winter tradition for many across the state, but there are still many who aren't quite ready for the challenge of jumping into a frozen lake in the middle of winter. Here's your chance to experience the Plunge with a bit more sun in the forecast! This event, located at the Lookout Bar & Grill in Maple Grove on Sunday, July 17, will feature a large pool filled with water and ice cubes, lowering the temperature as close to 32 degrees as possible.  It's like the Polar Bear Plunge but in the sunshine! Visit  www.solarplungemg.kintera.org to learn more and register today!
Great Idea!

Suggested by Officer Pat Moriarty (Richfield Police Department). Pat purchases bottled water/pop in bulk and keeps in a cooler in their break room. The drinks are sold for $1 (on your honor) and the profit is donated to Special Olympics Minnesota. What an easy fundraiser!

LETR Awards - Nominations Due This Week!!!

Distinguished Service Award Nominations are due June 10. Nominate your Outstanding Law Enforcement Torch Run Volunteer today!

Nominations for the LETR Unsung Hero and Torch Run Hall of Fame awards are now being accepted as well. These awards will be presented at the Leadership and LETR Conference in September!

Torch Run Tour - Join the Fun!
The Torch Run Tour is a series of highly visible road race events where supporters (hopefully officers, but others are welcome as well) gather and run in military style with cadence (chanting) throughout the 5k (3.1 TCM10MilePose08mile) distance wearing matching Torch Run T-shirts. The purpose is to raise awareness for the Torch Run and law enforcements' support of Special Olympics Minnesota. The group runs approximately 10 minute miles so it is something for runners of all ability levels. Please help us spread the word to officers about this simple way to get involved with the Torch Run and spread awareness! Contact Kevin Torgerson if you are interested in taking part - torgerson.kevin@CO.OLMSTED.MN.US. Next up on the Torch Run Tour:  July 20 - Torchlight 5k in Minneapolis www.torchlight5k.com. Visit the Torch Run Events page for a listing of all the Torch Run Tour dates and locations.
Thank you so much for all you do year-round to support our athletes and programs!

Sincerely,

Your Special Olympics Minnesota Torch Run Staff
