Final Leg & Summer Games 2011

Don't miss the single best night to be a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run! On June 24 at approximately 8:10 p.m. Torch Runners will bring the "Flame of Hope" into the Summer Games Celebration Ceremonies at the U of M. Hundreds of athletes, volunteers, coaches and fans will be cheering you on as you run through the crowd to officially light the Summer Games Caldron. As described by Chief Rodney Seurer, Torch Run Director, "the athletes, coaches and pare2010 SG final leg ceremonynts are all standing and cheering, so loud that you are not able to hear yourself. They are all cheering for their heroes. Their heroes are YOU!! After the ceremony, all the athletes want to take a photo with you and ask for your autograph. You will be hooked for the rest of your life. Come and join us for the Final Leg Celebration Ceremonies!! You will not be disappointed!!"

Following the ceremony, Torch Run participants and their family are invited to Sally's Saloon and Eatery on campus for food and drinks to celebrate a successful year!

In addition to the run into Celebration Ceremonies, Summer Games will have many opportunities for our Law Enforcement to get involved, including volunteer slots at the awards tent, and the LETR Plaza located in Olympic Town. Check out all the ways to get involved by visiting the Torch Run events page and downloading the Summer Games flyers!

Featured Officer: Jacki Dawson

jacki dawsonOfficer Jacki Dawson and the Worthington Police Department are hosting their first Cop on Top event later this month on May 26 and 27. Read on to learn more about Jacki and her involvement with the Torch Run.

How long have you been involved with Torch Run?

I have been involved since 2007 when I was made aware of the opportunity through my department. My Chief was quickly made aware of my interest and enthusiasm when he received my reply to the e-mail within seconds of receiving it. I became the department's Special Olympics/LETR coordinator after my first Kick-off Conference in 2007 and haven't looked back since.
