Rumble Success!!
Thank you volunteers, organizers and sponsors!

Rumble success! Thank you to all the Rumble volunteers, organizers, and sponsors for making the third Rumble on the River such a great success.
Over 1500 fans and spectators were on hand!! Competitors had a great time on the water thanks to the officials and coaches, and while the no parking policy posed some challenges, overall, it made for a safer event and people were extremely cooperative.
Thank you again for putting CRI on the map with a fantastic event that helped support our military and veterans programs.

CRI Wins 'Rings of Gold' Award
Youth and Adaptive Programs Hailed by USOC
|
Community Rowing, Inc. was chosen as a winner of the 'Rings of Gold' award and will be honored with other recipients at the 2012 US Olympic and Paralympic Assembly held in Colorado Springs, CO, this week.
The Rings of Gold awards are bestowed annually to recognize both a program and an individual dedicated to helping children develop their Olympic or Paralympic dreams and reach their highest athletic and personal potential.
In the program category, the USOC said, "Community Rowing, Inc. draws youth from nearly every demographic and socio-economic stratum within the Greater Boston area for year-long competitive programs, as well as summer camps and clinics."
The USOC noted that, "More than 700 young people use its facilities. In addition, CRI has implemented a rigorous academic support program, designed to nurture and mentor some of the most at-risk student athletes."
"CRI reaches more than 1,000 individuals in free outreach programs and, with a fully accessible boathouse, CRI's Adaptive Rowing Program gives youth with special needs a chance to experience the freedom of gliding across the water," the USOC said.
Annually, CRI serves more than 250 athletes with a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities that train and compete locally and regionally. CRI's Adaptive members program doubled since last year, to 40 rowers. Community Rowing was designated as a Paralympic Sports Club in 2009.

The New Bedford Chase, a 3-mile head race around New Bedford Harbor, is scheduled for September 22. It's last year's New Bedford Pope's Island Regatta - enhanced with a redesigned course and more and larger markers, retaining the same fun bridges and working waterfront!
Eights, fours, doubles, pairs, singles . . . youth, open, masters . . . All are invited.
We can't promise that last spring's whale will return to the Harbor for the occasion, but you'll launch from an island marina and race through two bridges, around two islands, and along a vibrant working waterfront.
To register to participate in The New Bedford Chase, go to
Regatta Central
For masters rowers, there's a bonus: The South Coast Business Alliance is holding its annual Oktoberfest just up the street at Custom House Square in New Bedford's cobble-stoned Historic District. As the last boat comes off the course, the kegs will have already been tapped. It's a fun event, with net proceeds to benefit local charities. Plus, participants in the New Bedford Chase get $5 off admission!
Want to stay the night and explore New Bedford? A limited number of rooms are available at the waterfront Fairfield Inn at a discounted rate. For more information, call the Inn at 774-634-2000 and tell them that you are a race participant.
Questions? Call Anne at New Bedford Community Rowing at 508-717-9799.
