Strong Showing for Comp Women in Delaware
Diamond States Regatta
|
The Competitive Women's team traveled to Delaware over the weekend to compete in the Diamond State Regatta for the first time. A masters regatta, the Diamond States Regatta attracts the best competition from the mid-Atlantic and proved to be an excellent preparation for Masters Nationals in August. The women had a strong showing, coming in first in the 8+ and winning the overall trophy in the 4+!!

Vespolis Named and Blessed Sunday
The Blessing of the Fleet
|
Thank you to all our staff and volunteers who put together a fabulous event Sunday afternoon. Despite a bit of wet weather, and one tremendously loud clap of thunder, the assembled crowd witnessed the naming and blessing of our fleet of new Vespoli 8's.
The shells themselves were a lovely sight - shiny and red, set out in slings, adorned with white bows and bottles of champagne sitting at the ready at bow seat. Bruce Smith greeted the crowd, introducing the boat names and the stories behind the names. A Naval Chaplain gave the blessing, followed by the traditional wetting of the boats with bubbly.
The Names are:
1. Charles P. Pieper Sr. 2. Alte Achter 3. Andy Sudduth 4. Robert F. Morse 5. Jane G. Morse 6. Audrey and Mel 7. CRI Me a River 8. Ann Robart 9. "The Brothers" - '72 10. "Howie" Schmuck

Good Luck Marquis!!
Echoing Green Fellow 2012
|
CRI is thrilled to report the most recent success for Marquis Taylor, who has been heading up our middle school indoor rowing initiative, Let's Row Boston. Earlier this year, Marquis was awarded an Echoing Green Fellowship to help launch an organization he started called Coaching For Change.
As a fellowship recipient, Marquis will be pursuing his dream of using social enterprise to expand educational and economic opportunities for urban teens. The extensive travel and networking opportunities through the fellowship unfortunately mean that he will be taking time away from full time responsibilities here at CRI, but he will continue to consult for the Let's Row Boston program as we expand into four new sites for 2013.
We wish Marquis all the best and cannot wait to see where the fellowship will take him. Go Marquis!!!
