New Balance Foundation Visits CRI
New Balance Staff Give Rowing a Try!!

Eager to experience the joys of rowing first hand, a few of the staff of the
New Balance Foundation braved the high heat and took to the water at
CRI last week.

New Balance's Noreen Bigelow, Megan Bloch (who happens to be 9 months pregnant) and Hannah McCarthy, along with CRI's Tracy Smith, toured the
Charles River 'pond' area and were coached in the basic stroke technique by CRI's Director of Outreach Ellen Minzner.

We are most grateful to our neighbors at the New Balance Foundation for
their ongoing support of CRI, and for their generous $40,000 grant this year
which will help fund our outreach programming.

Thank you New Balance!!

Third Annual Celebration of Women's Rowing
Sunday, September 23rd

SAVE THE DATE - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 - THIRD ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF WOMEN'S ROWING

The tradition continues. Please plan to join us on Sunday, September 23 for the third celebration of women's rowing and to thank women's national team members who led the way to make women's rowing widely available. We'll put together mixed line-ups at 8:30, row and scull together, and enjoy each other's company at brunch.  It's a wonderful, fun morning. All CRI women - junior and senior - as well as CRI men who support women's rowing, family and friends are welcome.

If you can help plan the event and/or help on the day, please email Jane Morse at: jgmorse@morses.net

Daily Water Quality Color Flags
Do You Know What the Colors Indicate?

The Charles River Watershed Association's Water Quality Notification Program presents the daily flag colors of the river's health, which signify whether or not the river is safe for boating. The flags are dispayed at nine boating locations from Watertown to Boston. Water quality flag colors are updated each weekday from early July through mid-October.

A Blue Flag: indicates safe boating conditions
A Yellow Flag: indicates inconclusive data to predict possible health risks
A Red Flag: indicates likely health risks
