Comp Women Take Gold at Weekend Regattas
Gold at Derby Sweeps & Sculls and Festival Regatta

The competitive women's team is off to a great start this racing season! With two regattas under their belt so far (Derby Sweeps & Sculls in Derby, CT and the Festival Regatta in Lowell, MA), their boats have crossed the line first (and often right behind in second as well!) in every sweep event the team has entered.

Go CRI Women!!!

The 1996 Quad Looks All Shiny and New
Thank You Paul Zimmerman!!

The comp girls take out the 1996 quad, looking lovely in its new paint, for an afternoon row.

We are all very thankful to Paul Zimmerman (Zoe Zimmerman's dad) for his fabulous generosity of providing the funds to spruce up the boat with a new coat of paint.

Congratulations Leigh!!
A Baby Shower at the Boathouse

Head of the Charles 2012- Join the Umpire Corps
October 19th - October 21st

Want a great view of the Head Of The Charles this year? Think you can umpire?

The HOCR course is the most challenging headrace in the world, with narrow bridge openings, many tight turns, and lots of boats competing. Each year a corps of 125 keen-eyed umpires observes every meter of the twisting course to insure that the Head Of The Charles is safe and fair for its thousands of competitors. We invite you to join this terrific team of umpires in 2012.

We provide:

  • HOCR training and certification of all new umpires via a training session held the morning of September 22nd 9am-12pm. Included is intensive training in how to evaluate interference situations;
  • The opportunity to contribute to the success of the HOCR and to learn a different side of rowing;
  • A final training and logistics info session on the Friday afternoon of race weekend, October 19th (starts at 5:00 pm);
  • Umpire Teams lead by experienced USRA Referees-you'd be surprised at what you don't know about successful racing on the Charles!
  • Refreshments (including great early morning coffee) and lunch service via the bicycle delivery team on race weekend;
  • Transportation services to and from the Cambridge Boat Club and distant umpire stations along the river.

Interested in helping?

We need volunteers with rowing experience, focus, judgment, and the willingness to invest some training time and 1-2 days "on station" to make the HOCR the safest, fairest regatta possible. Please, join us!!

Post Traumatic Stress Awareness Day
June 27th
June 27, is PTSD Awareness Day. People with PTSD, whether civilian or military, are our neighbors, friends, and co-workers. Be prepared to help them. What do you know about PTSD? Take this brief test and see.

True or False:
1. Up to 25% of U.S. adults experience trauma during their lifetime.
2. PTSD is curable
3. Since returning from Afghanistan, a friend of yours has been experiencing nightmares about when she was there. She has PTSD.
4. Screening "positive" for PTSD means that you need to get treated.

Answers:
  • 1. False. During their life 50-60% of US adults will experience at least one trauma. How common is PTSD?
  • 2. True. We now have effective PTSD treatments that work for most people, improving their symptoms and changing their lives.
  • 3. False. Nightmares are common following trauma. If symptoms affect her day to day life or don't fade over time, she should be assessed for PTSD. (11-20% of recent Veterans have PTSD).
  • 4. False. A screen is a list of questions to tell if you might have PTSD. Screening positive for something means you should be evaluated further by a professional.

  • Raise your awareness of PTSD today! Visit www.ptsd.va.gov to learn more.

    Please pass pass this along to someone else to help raise awareness of PTSD. Thanks for taking the test. Thanks to VA National Center for PTSD for developing this test and sharing this information.
