Drifting the Ocean Blue
Novice Girl's Coach Nigel's Journey

Nigel Gallaher, our adventurous (and courageous) Youth Novice Girls Assistant Coach, has completed half of an insane rafting journey across the Atlantic Ocean.  With two weeks to go, he writes:

"We have had to contend with very rough seas with huge waves and 30 mile per hour winds for the last 48 hours which hasn't helped my seasickness that I've been suffering from for the last week. We are having to sail very close to the wind to make it past the Turks and Caicos Islands, which we hope to be able to do in the next 24 hours, then we should be able to make a direct run for Eleuthera. We we in the direct path of a cruise ship at dawn this morning that had to change course to avoid hitting us..............similar to what happens on the Charles sometimes! Thank God for VHF radio!"

If you would like to follow Nigel's progress and learn more about his adventure, visit: http://gasballoon.com/antiki/

Send Nigel well wishes at: Wish Nigel Good Luck!!

All of us at CRI wish for swift trade winds, steady currents and a safe and speedy return for Nigel. We miss you Nigel!

IRL Class of 2012 Graduation

On Sunday, June 17th, the Institute for Rowing Leadership will be sending off our inaugural class of IRL Fellows. Throughout the year, they have touched many programs and have had a tremendous impact on our organization and culture. Before they set out for their new beginnings, take the opportunity to join us in giving them a proper send off like only the CRI community can!
Track Your Fitness This Season
Start with VO2 Max Testing

Are you looking for a personalized way to track your fitness this year? Start your season with a VO2 max test!

The test is a 10-12 minute, rowing specific, step test designed to measure your maximum aerobic power. This value indicates how much work you can do while remaining aerobic. If you are able to remain aerobic at a high workload, you will be able to continue to hold that pace for a longer period of time.

Tracking and training this system gives a rower a huge advantage over the course of a 1k or 2k race!  Each test comes with a one-on-one consultation with our exercise physiologists, Dr. Andrew Taylor from Harvard Medical School and Glen Picard from the ExPD program, who will review your data and make training recommendations based on those values.

Discounted tests are still available but are going quickly. Please contact Judith Vogel for more information!
